I have a 86 17 foot ebbtide with a 110 evinrude outboard. i am getting a continuos beeping buzzing sound which comes from the hand throttle/ drive lever area. could someone please tell me what this means? before it would only do it shortly after start up. would shut engine off and restart and would not do it again. now it will not stop.

Hey Pete.. this sounds serious.... will it rev up while in neutral? If it revs freely and high.. the power head should be ok.. if it will NOT rev up freely and high.. STOP - you are causing more damage..
Check the compression with a good gauge..it should be 125psi minimum.. with no more than 10 psi difference between any two cylinders.. DO this WITH the THROTTLE WIDE OPEN...
Can you turn the propeller by hand while it is in neutral?..Of not.. this is the problem.

Take the cowling off. Also drop the foot. There wil be a stainless linkage rod that runs the length of the motor that you will have undo to drop the foot. The water impeller will be inside a stainless casing that you will have to disassemble.

You don't say what year yours is so I will generalize.
Inside the remote control is a warning buzzer that will sound if there is a problem.
It may be telling you of an overheating condition or if it has low oil in the reservoir.
If both of these conditions are OK you may have a short in the harness or the sensors.

Depending on the year motor, make sure the throttle is in the neutral position, drop the lower unit and the motor foot should come off, will probably take some wiggling and with the age of the motor, possibly a few light taps around the cavitation plate with a mallet would be helpful.
