Problem useing the zoom on Olympus 70-300mm Lense

No, but it appears that there is a bad tooth or something in the gear mechanism of the lens. Internal issue, hopefully over time it will "go away." Cross fingers and hope it does not get any worse. I would carefully shake the heck out of it to possibly dislodge what ever it is.

I have an old Rolleicord Camera.Am I able to find out more about it from the number (5574350) on the bottom lens?

No, the number on the lense is only the lense serial number. Lenses are/were made by companies separate from the manufacturer of the camera. Generally, if you search for Rolleicord on Google you can find pretty good information but you may have to do some digging to find something that looks like your model. The best bet, is to go by the make/type of lense to narrow it down. Rolleicords were made from the 30's to present day, with various features and lense types, mostly Schneider Xenar's or Zeiss Planar's. You can buy a brand new Rolleicord 2.8G today, for around $3000us, so the look of the camera can really lie about it's age.

Search for things like Rolleicord (lense maker) (lense type) (lense f/number) (shutter type). Shutter type will be Compur MX, MXV, Synchro-Compur M, MX, MXV, etc. Possibly also Compur Rapid. Shutter speeds can also narrow it down, but I believe all Rolleicords were B-500 shutters.

Can you use the twist-barrell zoom lens on a Sony DSLR camera (or any DSLR) when the camera is set to auto-focus? I've been told that this damages the gears in the lens if you do. Thanks for your help.

You can zoom completely independent of the focus.

Some lenses immediately override the autofocus when it senses you turning the manual focus ring. Other lenses don't, and you can damage the lens by forcing it. It depends on the lens, so you'll have to consult the documentation for the specific lens.

Panasonic DMC-FZ7 digital camera.

I believe the FZ7 determines that the lense cap is still on when it can't extend the zoom lense because the lense cap is in the way. I would check to see if your zoom lense housing is somehow stuck (could be sand or dirt in it) which is creating enough resistance to make the camera think the lense cap is impeding the zoom lense from extending.

Sorry, the mounts of Minolta manual focus lenses are different than their auto focus series. Sigma, Tokina and Tamron all make compatible zoom lenses to fit the Maxxum series cameras

The lense does not close in

It sound like a problem with the zooming mechanism (lens would not retract or extended) Press the power button on and hold it down while extending and twisting the telescopic zoom lens. It might fix your problem. In any case it could not make it worse Good luck!
