Hp dv7-4165dx caps lock blinking, not powering up

I had the same problem with my HP DV7-4165DX. Here is the solution, although it may sound crazy.
1. Lift open the screen.
2. Take a towel and wrap it around the base of the laptop so no air can escape from the fan.
3. Turn on the laptop and let it get hot for 15-30 minutes.
4. Turn off the laptop.
5. Remove towel and power it back on. The laptop should boot up and go into Windows. This is a temporary fix - once you power it down and let it cool off, it will not turn back on and you will have to repeat the process.
6. While in Windows, you need to update the BIOS to "2013-02-26 , VersionF.29, 4.16M" Here is the link to the application:

http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp61001-61500/sp61028.exe

7. Run the executable file.
8. The BIOS will ask you to shutdown.
9. When you power the computer back on it will run a program to update the BIOS.

Now, I tried this last night. I turned the computer off before I went to bed and it was cold in the morning. I hit the power button and it started right up. I shut it down and ten minutes later tried it again - it started right up. Hopefully you will have the same success I did.

Try removing the battery and the power cable for about 30-40 min and then plug it back in. If that doesn't work try contacting HP. I had a similar issue with a Toshiba replaced the HDD and after that it was fine. So I would say try those, if all else fails post on www.techsupportforum.com.

My laptop was starting to run really high and hot and would shut down after just a few minutes. Last night when I tried to restart it, the lights all came on, but not the screen. It doesn't even sound...

Try to drain the static energy of the motherboard first by follwing this steps.

Take out the battery
Unplugged the power adapter
Press and hold the power button for 30 secs
Put the battery back in
Plugged in the power adapter
Turn ON the computer

If still NO display. You need to call HP tech support department for this could be a mainbaord issue. Since you mention that system is running hot. Computer fan might stop working that damages the mainboard.

Hp dv6700 does nothing

The liquid would have shorted out the laptop and rusted the boards!

You need to go to google and find the serivce manual for the laptop and take it again to clean all the boards up.

the service manual is very easy to follow so you should have no problems at all.

if not you may be best of claiming a new one on your house insurance

Laptop screen goes white

Hi there Try to connect it to an external monitor and see how it goes. If the problem stays, that mean your video chip is probably defective. bad news since it's integrated in the main board. Replacement of this is costly. Unless it's still under waranty of course. If not, that means your inverter is probably defective and needs to be replaced.
