Nice mower.

We have a Husqvarna from Lowe's that we bought used but it never has given us trouble. The only thing you didn't mention is the battery. How are the connections to that (I know that's sort of basic).

I'm sure there is, but never had to change one to know exactly where it is on this particular mower.

I know, on my 1984 Craftsman mower, there's a pigtail under the hood that has a fuse that was giving me trouble.

Everything was dead until I wiggled it, removed it, cleaned it, bent it, and put it back in. The socket was kind of melted as far as the plastic but still functions, so I didn't bother replacing the socket.

The above link goes to the site for the 2448 and shows a fuse part no. 26.

There's an exploded view on the .pdf. and parts list.

It appears it is like my Craftsman, with a pigtail under the hood where the fuse is located.

Why does my husqvarna 2448 die when blade engages

I agree with Phil. The safety switch under the seat on my Husqvarna is very sensitive. Sometimes if I hit a large enough bump, it's enough to disengage the switch even with me on the seat.

Intermittent starting problem

hav e you checked the brake/ clutch safty switch . you said you looked for the clutch switch not sure if your talking bout the clutch that some models use to engauge the mower deck or if your taking bout the brake/ clutch switch .. either one will cause the rider not to start . your brake/clutch safty switch should be located on the under side of the rider just inside the frame rails very near the brake rod that the brake / clutch pedal is part of .. this is usually a 3 inch or so spring loaded piece usually white in color and will have a piece sticking out if the brake is depressed . " if i remember correctly " . check there these on some are on the same side as the brake / clutch pedal others are on the other side of the rider . i cant remember off the top of my head what side craftsman riders are on for sure .. you cna try to take this off and use electrical contact cleaner on it to clean the terminals in side it , this can be bought from any auto parts store like autozone or napa .. also check your battery i have seen some batteries cause the same issue . you can check the battery by checking the power it has under load with a volt meter set to amps and see what it drops down to ... also another tirck is if you have a battery jump pack also known as jump starters , hook one or even a battery charger to the battery ( charger on 12volt low ) and see if you still have the same starting issue .... last idea is you could have a bad ignition switch after all and its not sending power out every time , i had a issue with my gt where my head lights didnt work and changed out the switch n they work now .. . hope these ideas help if you need any more help just drop me a line ill help best i can ..

I have a yard machines 46 inch cut 18.5 hp riding mower that wont start. i changed ignition swith and soleniod. if i cross wires on solenoid it will start after putting gas in carb. it runs till gas runs...

I would start with the safty switches. Look for them on the deck engager, seat??, break/clutch pedel, blade engager lever. Remember the blade sw. must be disengaged be fore it will start. Ifit runs as you said It is in the wiring/ electrical system. I know it is not in the ignition sw. or seloniod. szm230

I have a 6 year old Craftsman rider, model 27363 w/18.5 HP Briggs engine and 42'' deck. I tried to start but nothing - no click, ammeter doesn't move, hour meter doesn't run. Checked battery, have 12.8...

The start circuit usually only goes through the clutch/brake switch, and the clutch switch. That way it won't start if the clutch isn't depessed (brake on) and the mower deck turned off. You can test for voltage on the s terminal (start) on your switch. then for 12V+ at the clutch brake switch, then at the clutch switch, finally at the solonoid. The seat switch usually only kills the ignition if you have the PTO engaged, and you leave the seat.

I have a husqvarna yth2148 and the blades have quit and then after sitting till the next day they have started working and now it quit completely and wondering if there is a way to test the pto switch by...

Testing the PTO clutch and wiring.
1) A voltmeter or test light is a MUST.
2) Starting at the clutch, there is a connector from the wiring harness.
a) one wire will have voltage, the other is a ground wire
**NOTE: a person must be in the seat, pto turned on. DO NOT start the engine, but have the key in the run position as if you were mowing.
If there is voltage in the wiring harness connector, the problem is the clutch assembly.
If NOT, then
3) check for voltage from the back of the pto switch (normally, the switch can be removed by depressing the holding tabs on it's sides, so that you can access wires easily)
a) you will have a supply wire from the ignition switch, and a wire that goes to the clutch harness. with the switch on, you should have voltage on at least 2 wires. The other wires are the seat safety/start circuit and are not part of this test.
b) If you have battery voltage coming into the switch, but nothing coming out, the switch is bad.
c) if you do not have any voltage supply, then
4) check the ignition switch, does it have a battery source voltage, and in the run position, it normally will have an 'A' terminal that supplies the pto switch
* note
5) many times the internal terminals of the igniton switch can fail to supply voltage to the pto switch
** I am assuming the supply to the ignition switch is good, because otherwise you would not be able to start the tractor..

Husqvarna 2448 pto switch kills engine, bldes

try unplugging the pto, start the mower, then engage the pto switch. If the fuse still blows trouble is somewhere in the mowers wiring if not the ploblem lies in the pto. hope this helps
