Question about Hayward SAND FILTER, PRO SERIES
18 is about what I would expect ... you shouldn't back wash until about 30.
If your water is cloudy ... take a look at the chemestry. Is this a gunnite or vinyl pool? Has the metal been removed from the water using a sequestering agent. What is the pH? Alkalinity? Oh yea ... how long do you run the filter? Should run at a very minimum 16 hours a day ... better to run it 24/7.
First, if you have not ... let the CH go to nothing ... put in some 'metal out' according to the bottle insructions. When the metal is gone ... next, get the alkinity to 100 ppm. Introduce Cl to 2 - 4 ppm. Get the pH to 7.4 - 7.6. Are you using stabilized Cl or liquid? If liquid, introduce 75 ppm Cynauric acid according to container instructions. What about calcium? Vinyl - don't worry about it ... gunnite - get the CA to 300 ppm. BTW - Don't dump all this stuff in at one time.
(presence of metal will turn the water green and possibly stain your pool)
If you fillow my lead, your pool will be sparlking in a couple days.
