If you had the door open for that long you will need to unplug and allow the ice buildup that happens when door is left open to thaw. After this you need only to plug the refrigerator back into the power source.Let me know what happens It is not going to work correctly until this is done. Sea Breeze

I have a Frigidaire refrigerator with a top mount freezer, no ice maker. I have noticed that in really cold weather, the unit becomes less efficient, and in extreme cases, stuff in the freezer begins to...

Hi,
When it gets very cold the gas (freon) in the refrigeration system shrinks....because the properties that make cold also work against you in this case...when the gas shrinks in volume it then does not work properly anymore...the hot gas does not turn back into a liquid but stays as a gas and because of that it does not cool when going through the expansion device...ie. cap tube or expansion valve. If you were to keep it in the cold all the time you could add a bit of charge to make it work, but then if you move it to warm or the weather warms... now you are over charged... just one of those "no win" deals...
They don't make these things to run in extreme environmental changes..they like it a consistent temp. all the time...

I have a stand alone freezer model MFU17F3GW8 serial # WB11907298 my problem is that it does not get cold enough. what could be the problem?

. Cut everything off for a few minutes then turn it back on and listen for a click from the compressor relay as the compressor tries to start.
Is the compressor motor running. If no check starter/overload relay.

Are the condenser coils on the back warm or room temp. should be warm

How to check stuff>
http://www.acmehowto.com/howto/appliance/refrigerator/refrigerator.php

evaporator coils are behind the rear cover inside the freezer at the bottom.
observe the frost pattern. Light frost everywhere(NORMAL) or a partial pattern of ice(LOW ON FREON) or nothing(LOW FREON OR COMPRESSOR PROBLEM).
Compressor or freon problem will require a repairman.

Normal Operating pressure for true 2 door Freezer R404A Room Under 80 degrees F Box at -10 degrees F

The pressures depend, somewhat, on the expansion device,i.e. a TXV or Cap Tube. Take a pressure reading, then convert it to a temperature. The evap temp should be right at 10 colder than the box temp. Remember, heat flows to cold so the evap has to "Lead the Load" in order to cool. In many cases, the condensing pressure is usually ambient temp, plus 30, then convert to a pressure. These are general accepted practices that have been used for many years.

Hope this helps

How to tell if you have a bad suction valve for ac compressor?

Hey there. First question I have is if you have a heat pump or straight ac. Straight ac is easy to diagnose. Your suction pressure will be high, your head pressure will be lower, not sure how clean your condenser coils are so its hard to say how high. Your amp draw on your compressor will be lower than normal. Also, when looking at the suction pressures, you have to keep in mind what temp the air hitting the evap coil is. If it is warm, that will make your suction pressure go up. Another way to check the vavles is to hold the suction line at the compressor when you shut it off. If the temp goes up the second you shut it off, this tells you the hot gas is leaking through your suction valves. You can also try to pump the system down, then shut it off and see how fast the pressure builds back up, this will give you and idea how fast it is leaking through. Let me know if you need any thing else, I'll be here.

if the compressor runs but your not getting cold, 90 percent of the time one of two things has happened. either the compressor valves have gotten weak over time and the process of moving and warming up allowed it to defrost and now it has to pull down from a hot box to freezing and just can't because the valves prevent 100 percent efficiency and it struggles to achieve temperature.however i think most likely is that the delicate , brittle , and highly suceptible steel tubing in the outer skin of the box has ruptured and the box has lost its refrigerant charge. these are sealed systems usually with no place to apply a gage to verify if charge is low or valves are bad. if by some chance it has access ports where you can apply a suction gage, a pressure of 20 to 40 punds is close for a hot box and pressures of 60 and above may indicate weak valves. if you are running less than 10 pounds or in a vacuum then the charge is gone, leaked out . unfortunately a new compressor is usually to big an investment in an old box. new is cheaper! and if the tubing in the case has ruptured, then its inaccessible and box is condemned also. sorry to be the bearer of bad tidings but many times a new box is a blessing and saves you from sinking a ton of money in an old one. imagine your frustration if the compressor went bad cause it was low on freon and you paid for a new compressor only to have it die in a few months also. i am pretty sure you have lost your freon charge and unless you can physically see the leak with soap bubbles right at the compressor piping you are in need of a new box. good luck .

idiot alert!

Seems I moved the plug to a switched outlet in a dark room. Every time I went in the unit was running and everything seems to be fine except the temp was rising....always worse after an overnight without a light on! I tested the power (can't do that in the dark) and checked the freezer over without finding issue.

My stupidity resulted in cookouts for all my friends three nights in a row and a bruised ego......at least my friends think I am a great guy and a good cook! I was rolling the unit to the curb when it dawned on me! Thanks
