Question about Cutler Hammer Fusible AC Disconnect Switch 30 Amp

1 Answer

I have installed a fusible cutler hammer disconnect switch 30 A, 600V. I have connected the incoming wires at the bottom. Will it be a hazard to change the fuse inside the box if it is blown. I mean will there be power at bottom terminals when switch is turned off

It will be a hazard to some else who opens it someday thinking the hot wires are at the top. Best answer is to check you counties electrical code. My answer is no I wouldn't hook incoming wires to bottom lugs.

I have an old cutler hammer breaker box 30 amp 125/250 250v 3w s/n that hooks up to my dryer. The switch lever thing is stuck in the off position, is this just needing the fuses replaced?

You have provided minimul information but here goes. If the lever is stuck, there must be some reason but I see no way it is electrical. Locking or "sticking" of the lever is strictly mechanical. Now, you mentioned "Fuses" if the box is that old, perhaps you should consider replacing it with a newer version. It is my assumption this box is installed as a service disconnect that is used to turn off the power when service to the equipment is required. Hardly and (if any) full size dryers operate on only 30 Amps. I suggest that if you install a newer box, that you insure your breaker and wiring are of sufficient Amperage to handle modern equipment.

Cutler hammer 60 amp non-fusible disconnect... looking for instructions or a diagram to install

You connect the two hot wires from your power source to the two lugs in the. On the other side of the disconnect you connect the two hot wires to the A/C unit to the other two lugs. You tie the neutral wires (white) together and insulate them. You ground the ground wire to the box and run a ground wire to the AC unit.

So, you should have a red, black white and ground wire on the supply side to your disconnect. The red and black are your hots from your main box to the disconnect. They go on one side of the disconnect. The units red and black go ont other side. You connect the neutrals and ground it and you are in business.

Don't guess, because you are fooling with 220 Volts AC which will knock you silly.

Cutler Hammer 20 Arc Fault breaker for bedroom outlets will not reset after activating test switch.

The circuit breaker must be turned to the "off" position first from the middle position, and then to the "on" position. The cutler hammer arc breakers carry a lifetime warranty so if it will not reset you may want to contact the manufacture.

Hi, I have the Cutler Hammer fusible ac disconnect 30 amp, my question is with the 10-3 wire from the fuse panel to the pullout do you only use the Black White and Ground and lay back the Red? Also, can...

If you use a white wire to carry a 120 Volt line it would have to be taped with either black or red tape both at the breaker box and your fuseable disconnect so the solution is to use the black and the red wire into your curcut breaker, the white and the bare ground both tie into the grounding post at the circut box and at the fuseable cut off, Yes the fuses are neccisary per code.. to eliminate a short or fault from traveling all the way back to the breaker box.. often times found inside the building the fusible pullout is attached to. check your local codes and regulations for more specific details.

Is there any particular position to hook up the

NO you cannot.
. Artical 240.40of the NEC2008 code states Disconnecting Means for fuses. Cartridge fuses in circuits of any voltage where accessible to other than qualified persons, and all fuses in circuits over 150 volts to ground, shall be provided iwth a disconnectiongs means on their supply side so that each circuit containing fuses can be independently disconnected from the source of power. The top is marked line. This is where you connect the incoming power source. Then the switch then the fuses then the outgoing or load connections. thats why there is enough space in the disconnect to allow the wires to loop in from the bottom of the disconnect to the top line side lugs.

The two wires coming from the breaker box go to the terminals marked "LINE". The two wires going to your AC unit go to the terminals marked "LOAD".

Hope you find this to be very helpful. :-)

Need a wiring diagram for a cutler hammer 100 amp double throw safetey switch the box came with no manual

Line voltage (source power) goes to the lugs on the top and load (goes to the device) is on the bottom. If it is designed for single-phase power (with a neutral), there should be an isolated block with lugs for neutral, but if it is not, just get an inline lug (available at a hardware store like Home Depot) to connect your neutrals and then insulate it with electrical or rubber insulating tape. Then you will need to bond your grounds (from the source AND to the device) to the can.

For 240 if it is a single pole breaker then no. You need a double pole breaker or 2 single breakers , one above the other, connect the red wire to one and the black wire to the other. this way you are drawing from both legs. hope this helps you...
