Question about Ford 8N Tractor

1 Answer

Having a problem with the lower links drifting down on the three point hitch. Impliment will stay where positioned when the tractor is running but when the engine is shut off the linkage drifts down. I have checked the flow control valve and it lowers drifts down at the same rate whether the control is turned to slow or quick. This is a 1981 Ford 1500 utility tractor. Two cyinder diesel and 4x4. I found the problem. Inside the rear hydraulic case there is a liner which a piston slides into and is adjusted by a valve, below the seat, for the lower links to go down slow or quicker. The piston has an oil seal on it. The seal on my tractor had become deteriated to the point that a quarter of it was missing. When the tractor was running the pump produced enough pressure or flow to keep the implement raised but when the engine was shut off the oil passed through the oil ring and the impliment was able to lower one its own. The fix was to install a new oil ring.

I hope this helps you for further reference.

    Sincerely,

Hi Steve,

You need to remove the relief valve attached to the side of the valve control block an check/replace any orings that may have failed.

Whe you reassemble ensure you remove all relief valve pressure and then using a pressurre gauge readjust the relife setting which will be between 125 - 205 psi

Hope this helps, let me know if you need more information.

Thanks

Jason.

Three point hitch wont lower, kubota l2550

Mine did the same thing. Below the front of the seat is a knob sticking toward the front of the tractor that is angled upward that controls the fall rate of the three point hitch. After searching the internet for a while I found what this knob is for and went out and turned it until the three point fell down. The knob is perfectly placed to bump with my foot as I get off the tractor (I have large feet and bump a lot of controls getting on and off) and I guess I had bumped it closed over time.

Im sorry, I thought you said you changed the oil. My thought was that perhaps the hitch might have bled down during the oil change. That happens occasionally with the tractor I service at work.

I hope you find your trouble. If you could let me know the answer, id appreciate that.

Three point hitch on 2020 Jogn Deere Tractor will not raise.

The three point hitch raises with hydraulic pressure. When the hitch will not raise the first thing to check is the hydraulic fluid level. If it is low add hydraulic fluid to the proper level as stated in the owner manual.

3 point hitch wont lower

Some of these tractors have a knob under the seat that locks the three point up so it cannot be lowered by accident. Check for this knob and open it.
