I replaced my black ink in my Brother MFC 5840CN Printer but I still am unable to print anything out with black ink. The colored ink works fine. Are there any steps I can try to resolve the problem?

I already tried cleaning with cotton and hot water and shaking an tapping the cartridge but that did not work.

Hello,

i advice you reset the printer, maybe the printer is not yet recognizing the new black ink you replace, power off the printer and power on back after few minutes, while the printer is booting/loading, remove pull out the plug from AC outlet and wait a while before plugging it back, after plugging it back, see, if it will print black, if problem still persist, check the settings on your printer to ensure the black ink is selected and to print from it, if that is done and yet not still able to print black, then, you will need to uninstall the printer driver from your system and reinstall back, ensure you restart the system after reinstlling, this should fix he problem.

Take care.

    Hello,

Are you sure the black ink cartridge you bought for your printer is compatible and the same model as the previous one you remove because printer are very sensible, you can try another cartridge to see if it will print because the cartridge might be bad. But try this before you conclude on that.
Hope you have the printer driver with you before you uninstall the driver from your system, if you do, follow the procedure to uninstall.
Go to start, click on it, go to control panel and click, go add or remove program on the new displayed window and click, you will see all the installed program on the system, scroll down to the printer driver, and click on it, now click uninstall or remove, wait for the printer driver to uninstall. after the driver have uninstall, you can now reinstall back the printer software and ensure you restart your system after reinstalling.

    Take care.

I do understand that you having a problem with your black ink. Based on the manual, try to turn off your printer, open the paper tray then open the cover to lift the cartridge. Then shake it for 10 secs and tap the left edge of your cartridge three times. Reinsert it back to the printer and turn the equipment on. If it still won't print blank then call your manufacturer to replace it.

Brother MFC-5840CN Will not print and message say's, "Unable to clean. See chapter in user guide". I don't see anything that can fix this problem. I have been successful in the past with turning it off and...

Inside the machine is a large plastic box packed with felt pads. The machine cleans its printheads by squirting ink through all the nozzles to blast them clear, then pumps that used ink into the Ink Absorber Box. When it calculates the the box is getting full, it puts up the message you reported. The box (Brother part number LF4818001) is a fairly cheap part, but getting to it is kind of complicated. Instructions for the nearly-identical model 5440 are here. Two other options worth considering are finding a local servicer on brother's website, or replacing the machine.

My brother printer not working well

Are you using Genunine Cartridges!!!!

ALL…. Epson & Brother Requires Genuine Cartridges. !!!!!!!!

In Purchasing Epson's CX 5400, CX4600, & CX7400 and more, I found out that Epson does not like Generic Printer Cartridges. I also Purchased a Brother. That also does not like Generic Print Cartridges. Color that should be Yellow, will turn out Green, Blue Brown, etc.

These printers have a CHIP that will detect if it is Generic or Genuine. When they see it’s Generic Cartridges, it will print lines thru the words, stripes across the picture and also do a mix match with the colors. It also will not let you print anything, if only one of the cartridges is empty.

I wanted to print only Black, and would not let me, because I did not have any ink in one of my cyan cartridges. Go figure.

That's what these Companies do., so they can keep selling the ink cartridges. Some Printers, are able to use Generic, and some are refillable. Some you can refill them up yourself and I heard, quite MESSY.

So I learned, thru trial and error, that you must use the ORIGINAL Genuine Cartridges for these PRINTERS. Some people say some models work fine compatible, but not mine.......

I had to replace the printer, but Epson, Lexmark & Brothers are always on sale. My Brother & Epson cost me $50.00 with Rebate. .

This is the only advice I can give you. If you find this helpful, pls rate me.

Thanks and Good Luck :0)

I changed all Print cartridges-Black, Yellow,Cyan,Blue

On this machine you have to install inks with power on and use the ink button and choose replace ink. If you just plug them in it won't register and reset the counts. You may need to run clean cycles at least twice to get proper colors.

Brother MFC 210C series ink replaced

The brother machines require ink in all the cartridges as it is always flushing ink through the heads to "clean" it. This means you must have ink in all cartridges at all times unfortunately or the brother will not work. Even if you could somehow get it to work it could damage your printhead anyway.

Good Luck
Please rate my advice, good or bad.
