Question about Vizio P2 42 in. HD-Ready Plasma Television
Thanks for using FixYa. From what you have described it seems to be the issue with Y-main however, Y-buffer and the logic board should also be checked. These boards are located on the right side of the unit and to check them you’ll have to open the back of the unit. Once you have opened the back also check for any blown/bulged capacitors. All this is only recommended if you have electrical expertise & know how to solder/re-solder components as these units contain high voltages even when in off position. Please do accept the solution if the issue is resolved or post a comment for further assistance.

What sounded was from the panel/board of the television.
There must have been a capacitor or fuse that got burnt out.
To check this, unplug your television, turn the back and unscrew it to be able to open it up. Your panel might be covered with some metal sheets that has tiny holes for ventilation, and some times it comes open.
Try to check every of its capacitors and fuse until you detect the capacitor that is burnt out, get a replacement, turn the back of the board and try to trace the capacitors end and burn out the lead that is sticking it to the board with a soldering iron. Be very careful not to damage anything on the board.
Then you replace it with a new capacitor, the new ones used to have longer ends so after you have soldered it to the board, bend the longer part and cut it with a hen beak plier. and also clean the part with a little bit of naphthalene using a cotton bud.
Screw back the panel to the board and connect all the cables back, then you can couple the television back together, plug it to a power source and turn it on and you will be surprised that your television will be in good condition once again.
