Question about Brother MFC-5840CN All-In-One InkJet Printer

1 Answer

I replaced the Absorption Pads and Flushing Case but still have..

I still have the message on the screen saying "Unable to Clean". Is there a way of reprogramming the printer now that the problem has been fixed and if so what is the procedure?

Yes it solved that issue but I still have an issue with my black ink not working yet.

  • kdill777 Jul 09, 2010

Using Cotton and Hot Water did not work to get the black ink to work.

    Any other suggestions?

Hello.

Since you replaced the absorber, etc., you need to reset the purge counter to zero.

1) Enter machine maintenance mode. Care is needed in maintenance mode, otherwise critical settings may be inadvertently corrupted.

FAX models with numerical keypads: Press the Menu/Set, *, 2, 8, 6 and 4 keys within two seconds. (if you fail to complete the correct key sequence within two seconds, press the Stop key to try again).

Other (non-FAX) models: Press the Menu/Set and Black Start keys. Next press the “up arrow” key four times to enter the maintenance mode).

2) Press the 8 then 0 keys in the initial stage of the maintenance mode to call up the machine's log information list (function code 80).

3) Press the Black Start key several times to scroll through the log information list to reach the purge counter. The purge counter is the 25th item in the list.

4) Press the 2, 7, 8, and 3 keys in this order to reset the purge count to zero.

5) Press the Stop/Exit key to return to the initial stage of the maintenance mode.

6) Press the 9 key twice to return to the standby state.

Hope this helps.

    It did work Thank you!

If I need to purchase more absorption pads and a flushing case can you refer me how to purchase these items?

  • kdill777 Jul 09, 2010

I can print out things but only the color items come through the black does not.
Can you offer steps to get my black ink to work. I just put in a new cartridge.

Try cleaning the black print head:

    (1) Open the printer
    (2) Remove the black ink cartridge from the print head.
    (3) Use cotton swabs dipped in hot water to thoroughly clean the print head.
    (4) Repeat this until there is no ink residue coming off on the cotton swab.
    (5) Once finished, allow to dry and replace the cartridge

    Again, hope this helps.

If the hot water is not cleaning the print head, use isopropyl alcohol, instead. If the print head is clean but still not working, your print head could be faulty.

Having un abale to clean on 425cn

Unable to clean pretty much means that the ink absorber pads have become full, this means the printer will need these replacing, also when you replace this the flushing box has to be replaced aswell. In all honesty it is cheaper to buy a new machine then get these replaced as a service enginner has to do this.

Machine says Unable to Clean

The unit needs to get new waste pad and flushing box. Cost for the parts are approx. $25 plus service.

The pads are almost fully saturated with ink and requires a replacement

Thanks

Brother DCP-135C Error message CLEAN UNABLE 46 How do I clear this please. I don't want to pay for an engineer. Thank you.

The error you are getting is telling you that the
Waste Pads have to get replaced because they are saturated with ink.

The sets of pads run under $20. The Upper set of Pads is not too hard to replace, you need to take the scanner assembly off, upper cover and control panel and the flushing box is in the back. The second pad requires taking out the printer mechansim and platen roller , bottom plate and possible removal of printhead. I do not recommend you doing this.
The unit then needs to get reset.

thanks

HI ALL HOW TO CLEAN DCP ERROR CODE 46

the proper reset code sequence to reset DCP printers without numeric keypad should be as follows:

2. enter maintenance mode 80 by pressing the up/down arrow key and set key to select numbers 8 and 0
3. press up arrow key several times to get to the Purge item
4. enter 2, 7, 8 and 3 using arrow/set keys to reset the counter

How do you find the waste ink collector on a printer/scanner ?

Inkjet printers have a fibrous pad inside them that collects the waste ink from cleaning the print head. Over time, this pad fills up with ink and can no longer hold any more. When this occurs, the printer indicates a "waste ink tank full" error.

The waste ink absorption pads are inside the printer, in the very bottom. They are usually soaked with ink when full and are very messy.

Replacing the waste ink absorption pads is something an authorized canon service facility can take care of for you.
