Moving my fridge on it's side or at an angle

You can lay it down but if you do, when you stand it up, wait 24 hours before you plug it in to turn it on. The reason is because the oil in the cooling system has to settle after being layed down.

I have a 3.1 cu ft regrigerator and need to transport it 800 milesaway. It willnot fit upright in ht e car.Can it be transported horizontally.

Yes it can. Rule is for every hous it is laying down it MUST stand up for that amount of time BEFORE plugging in. If you dont let it stand upright before plugging in it will destroy the compressor because the oil in the compressor runs through the lines when laying down. You MUST give the oil time to return to compressor or when you plug it in the compressor will not have oil in it and warp the internal components.

Any questions please comment back to me.

not the best way to do it, but if you must, just when oyou getit to its final destination leave standing up for at least 24 hrs before restoring power... you dont want oils from compresoor circulating through unit.. give it the full 24 hrs

Moved fridge...runs but now does not cool

Just unplug and let the compressor oil that flowed into the freezer evaporator to flow back to compressor. Unplug and wait 24 hours until trying to restart. Ifyou can not feel or insure compressor is running wait longer. The oil is thick and in liquid state it must seep through a hole about 10 feet and the opening can be as small as a sewing neddle. Can I transport a whirpool side by side refrigerator / freezer, laying it down on it's side for 5 hours? If when I reach my destination I stand it upright for 48 hrs. before I plug it in.

The short answer is yes, but the key is to make certain not to plug in and start the fridge for at least 24 hours once it is upright and in the final location.

The reasons manufacturers caution against transporting/moving a fridge on it's side also has to do with the possibility of damaging the doors and hinge plates. The big reason is because people tend to want to start filling up their new fridge with food right away, so they plug it in once it's in their house.

If a fridge has been shipped on its' side, the compressor oil tends to wick/flow into the piping and can cause a failure, if not allowed to drain back into the compressor when the fridge is placed back upright.

Although not the best way to transport, you can do it if you allow time for things to settle back before powering it up.

Heating strips which prevent door condensation over heating

MG,

During the move a hand truck got into the condenser fan and shut it down. Pull the fridge out and remove that cardboard cover in the back. On the left you'll see the compressor, on the right is the condenser fan. Make sure that there is nothing blocking the fan blade from rotating (I bet there is). Don't forget to replace the cardboard! It's crucial to the operation of you fridge.

After clearing the fan, plug it back in and you have your old fridge back! Cool, Huh?

Show me some love and rate this solution, will ya? Thanks!

LooseChad Were did you store the fridge? Has it been in the upright position all the time? If not, it has to be kept in the upright position for at least 24 hrs before you plug it. If this is not the issue, then most likely the problem is a bad starting device for the compressor or the compressor itself. If it is just a starting device then you can fix it yourself and the part is not expensive. If the problem is the compressor and your fridge is less then five years old - it is still under warranty and Kitchen Aid has to fix it free of charge. If the fridge is more then five years old, it is going to cost you over $500 and you have to compare it with the price of the new one.
