Typically in small pumps and compressors if there is no belt then it is an oiless system. Your particular one is oilless, so there is no need to oil the pump.

Pull the sump and check the main bearings for spinning in cap. The knock indicates a bearing and the fluctuating pressure indicates a oil hole being opened and closed as the bearing shell moves over the oil hole in the crank.

Trying to figure out where the oil goes after leaving the oil pump in a 88ford bronco II i'm not getting oil pressure

It goes through passages in the block that go to holes in your main bearings which pressurizes the holes in the crankshaft which then oil the rod bearings. Another passage takes oil to the cam and lifters and timing chain and is returned to the oil pan to repeat the process. Oil pressure cannot build if the rod and main bearings are worn out or spun, pick up screen on oil pump is blocked, oil pump is bad, oil passages are blocked. If the engine runs and is quiet with no knocking or taping then it may just be your sending unit or pressure gage is bad. Check it with a live oil pressure gage.

Changed lifters and oil pump and still have no oil pressure guage and sending unit are good had oil pressure before i changed the lifters

It could be that the oil pump is not priming because it is dry. Try by removing oil pressure sending unit and using a pump oil can, squirt at least a cupfull of oil into the hole and then replace sender. Also completely pre-fill oil filter before screwing it on. If that does not work you will have to remove oil pump and ensure all the gears are completely soaked in oil before installing as well as that described above.

I have a 1974 shovelhead harley iv built from the ground up . i enstalled a TP Pro-series billet oil pump from engineering total performance . the pump has 0 oil pressure after the motor has been running...

well, I've got no experience with TP oil pumps but I do have experience with S&S and Ultima. This is common on Shovelheads. When your engine gets hot, your gauge will show zero or very little oil pressure when idling. If you think you've got problems with oil, when it does this, pull the dipstick out of your oil tank and watch for the oil to swirl due to the return. The oil will look sort of "foamy" on top as well. Rev the engine a bit. This indicates that your pump is pumping oil.

A Harley engne uses a high volume low pressure oil system. The reason it won't hold oil pressure when hot is that the crank and the rest of the engine is constructed of roller or needle bearings. It doesn't have shell type babbit bearings like a *** bike. When a roller in the rod bearing rolls over the oil hole in the crankpin, you might build up a bit of pressure momentarily but very quickly, the hole is reopened and oil is squirting in between the round roller or needles. Take a dozen round pencils or something and place them side by side. Notice how much of the pencils touch the table, not much. The reason you get oil pressure when the engine is cold is because the oil is thick and the small holes it has to go through offer a lot of resistance when the oil is cold. When hot, the oil flows readily through the holes.

I assume you built your engine and used hydraulic units in the tappets like original or some other type of hydraulic tappet system. If you didn't have any oil pressure, the hydraulic units would be clattering quite loudly. Still the best way to check to see if your oil pump is indeed working is to watch for the oil return to the oil tank. Take the large oil filler cap off and remove the oil filter. Start the engine and watch for the oil flow. Do this with the engine hot.

Then throw that gauge away. You asked for a recommendation, that's it.

on a 83 its a external fuel pump, mounted in front of the fuel filter right in front of the drivers side rear tire, sounds like a bad pump or a bad relay or also could be the oil pressure switch that tells the fuel pump to kick in

Oil plug blew off top of metal housing during use

the only times Ihave seen this happen is when the pump seals were on the way out and water is pressurising the pump.the other thing that comes to mind ,you said you had just changed the oil , did you use non foaming oil? if not theoil will expand as it aereates but then it cenrerally looks milky but is does come out the breather etc

Coleman lantern doesn't appear to be pressurisig when priming with the pump as a result it doesn't light. I have checked for blockages and there doesn't appear to be any. Any thoughts

After verifying enough fuel in the tank, if you have turned the pump plunger handle counter clockwise 1/2 turn or so and cover the hole in the pliunger with your thumb while pushing it in, lift thumb off the hole while pulling it out and the pump is not building pressure, you can apply a few drop of oil to the plunger oil hole. If it still won't build pressure, Loosen the tank fill cap slowly to release any pressure that may be built up and turn the pump retaining ring to the left and remove the pump unit. Inspect the plunger cup for deterioration or cracks. replace partsasnecessary. Should be available where lanterns are sold.

No oil pressure

You can pull the oil pressure sending unit and install a mechanical gauge in the hole, and check if you have pressure, is so you can replace the sender, if not you have oil pump problems.
