I have a 51 inch hitachi 51UWX20b ..it is about 8 years old. Today the colors suddenly went out of wack. The tv was working perfectly!!! before that. getting double images and yellow halos. did some research and found the magic focus option - auto magic focus did not work, i am trying to do it manually... the bars will adjust vertically but not horizontally (which is where i need it to adjust). is there a bigger problem with the tv?

It is very easy to determine weather if you need to do a convergence repair or just make an adjustment with your TV's original remote. Take a look at this youtube video...
Replace Both of your STK ICs and 5 or 7 low ohm resistors if your stks are 110s , 150s, upgrade to 180s.STKs are your convergence ics they are the big black ics will have part number on them STK392-110 etc...
Your tv is crt-based and is out of convergence. In other words,
the settings for keeping the Red, Green and Blue images aligned have
drifted and must be reset. This is common with CRT projectors and
CRT rear projection tvs.
Refer to your owners manual for instructions on re-aligning it.
