The LED screen on my Yahama AV receiver, is blank. The unit still plays, but without being able to see what I am doing, I am unable to verify that all settings and abilities are working properly. The model number is RX-V657. Any suggestions on how to fix the problem without having to take it to a technician?

SOURCE: Yamaha RX-V995 receiver turns on & then powers off 2 seconds late

I suggest you run self diag.  press [FM/AM] key + [Input mode] key and press the [power/standby] switch.

ps prt = power supply problem
dc prt = shorted output or leakly cap in channel
tmp prt means to hot on heatsink

you'll likely have to measure the resistances of the output FETs to find a short,

System is on but the screen is blank, screen comes up advices me to press f1 or f2 for set up no mater what I choose next screen is just blank.

A blank screen without error messages is an indication of missing parts in the system unit. Or, the operating system has been erased. Verify from the system unit an already existing hard disk storage drive. An intension to change to another would require a new operating system to be installed.

Wireless speakers will not work.

Post the Model #'s of the products involved and I can be a little more specific. Using generic troubleshooting, First: make sure you have the wires for the receiving unit of the wireless speakers hooked up to either "A" Front or "B" Front. thenmake sure your receiver speaker switch for the corresponding location is on. It will light up on the front of the receiver either A, B, or both. Now, turn on the AV receiver and Tune it to a strong radio signal in your area, turn up the volume 1/4 to 1/2 way. Power the wireless units on. Both the speakers and their receiver should have a power button or at least a light to let you know they are getting signal. keep the speakers close and fine tune the wireless receiver with them until the led light on the front of the speakers is solid. You should have good audio at this point.

The other way the wireless receiver is hooked up is with RCA cables to the AV receiver. Without knowing what AV receiver you have, plug the RCA's into an "Output" like "Front Main Pre Out" or "VCR/Tape2 mon" or just plain "Monitor out" Depending on which Output you use will determine the setting on the receiver. If you need further clarification, post your equipment model numbers and I can tell you exactly what to do. Hope this helps

I just purchased a yahama rx- v850 av reciever

if you dont mind a lettle customization, just go to radioshack and set your favorite color l.e.d. and wire it in, if you can find a specs diagram for your reciever, you might look up voltage and wattage of the bulb so you can get appropriate resistors for the led, and install that. itll last forever, cost virtually nothing, and its easy to do.
