Question about HP Computers & Internet

2 Answers

I have only just today received my brand new HP Pavilion dv7 4070eb and commenced installation straight away. There were no problems in the initial installation and I booted Windows for the first time successfully and let it do its auto installs for things like Java and Adobe Reader. I then moved to update and patch the laptop with Windows Update but immediately noticed that something was wrong. Upon opening Windows Update I was met with a white cross in a red shield to signify an error. When I prompted it to ''Check for Updates'' I was met with an error message stating, ''Windows Update cannot currently check for updates, because the service is not running. You may need to restart your computer.'' I get the same error message when I try to run Windows Live Messenger. After multiple restarts and checking in the control panel that the update service was allowed and working, the error message still appears whenever I try to update or patch my machine. How can this kind of thing happen to a brand new machine that I've had for less than a day and has only had its basic settings chosen? It simply will not update, or even recognize that the update service is available. The internet is fully functional so it isn't any kind of connection problem. also my windows live messenger is not working. he alway's gives the same error code: 8e5e0247. i allready searched for hours on the internet but nothing worked to solve the problem. Has anyone got any ideas as to what the problem could be?

I would recommend run the recovery bit on the laptop whcih will carry out a fresh install and then maybe you can look at some of software that does not need to be installed?

I want to upgrade the standard 512mb RAM to 2GB. once installed do I just restart the computer or do I need to do something to allow the computer to recognize the new RAM?

Hi,

You should be fine to just turn the computer on straight away as soon as you have installed your new RAM. The computer will recognize the new upgrade straight away provided you have got memory that is compatible with the desktop computer.

When you upgrade the RAM take the old RAM out and make sure your new RAM runs at the same speed as your old RAM.

From what i can remember the maximum RAM speed that an HP pavilion supports is 400MHz although it could well be 333MHz.

The RAM that's installed in the desktop at this moment in time will have the speed on it so you check with that.

Regards.

I installed a new 12-cell battery yesterday and can't get the lap top to power up today. There is a slight flicker of blue light on the charging icon (thinderbolt) when I hit the on button.

try unplugging the battery and starting up with just the cord if that works charge the battery for 16 hours for a initial charge if after the 16 hour charge it does not work call the company because you have a bad battery
