Question about Whirlpool Centralpark 25.6 Cu. Ft. Side-by-Side Refrigerator w/Thru-the-Door Ice and Water - Stainless-Steel

1 Answer

The freezer keeps defrosting and re-freezing again

I have a whirlpool (c-pentane?) tall side by side black fridge and freezer with an ice dispenser and i keep hearing the warning sound and the freezer bit keeps flashing and although it sounds as if it is still on when i open the freezer door my food is defrosting so i mute the warning sound and sometimes if you switch it off then on again the beeping goes off but some times when you switch it off and back on it still beeps. The fridge reads "ok" still inside but the things in it dont feel that cold? I have taken the grill off the front at the bottom near the floor and cleaned away the dust near what seems to be the fan but it has not made any difference. It has digital thermometer readings that you can set on the outside and they are set at -18 and 3. Thx for your time, hope you can help, steve.

First you need to remove plastic cover inside freezer compartment back wall at the bottom and check for build up of frost in the freezing unit if so your defrost system is faulty

your  problem on this is the main control in the compressor compartment. unplug your refrig then remove this control unplug all connectors and reconnect. this will probably get you working temporarily In almost every case I've seen we ended up replacing the control board. thx peyton

SOURCE: Whirlpool side by side Refrigerator not cooling, two -- where -18 temp used to be.

the fact the bowl was filled with water and that you said the inside of the freezer was coated with ice, indicates a failure of the defrost system.
now the ice has gone, reset the temps and wait to see what happens

Check the compressor with a volt meter, if the compressor is getting proper voltage then check the relay. But this sounds like a problem with the compressor

Fridge portion doesn't get cold

The defrost circuit is not working, there are usually 3 things that normally go bad, defrost timer, defrost heater, and thermal switch. Would have serviceman check it out as cooling fins on coils will cut you like a razor.

The evaporator fan is not working. You will have to open the front inside panels on the freezer side to get access to the fan, which is just below the ice maker. It may just require a little servicing, or the fan motor is bad or the controller at the back supplying electricity is bad.

Model GSS25XSRB has cooling problem as well

Yes you have a defrost problem for sure. You will have to access the condensor coil in the back of the freezer compartment to get to the components. You will see a defrost thermostat(round thingy)wired to a heater element either solid black or encased in glass tube. Tubes are easy to see a burnout. You need to turn on defrost timer by rotating the crew slot clockwise until you hear a loud click. You are now in defrost. If heaters do not work then jump out the defrost thermostat and if they come on then thermostat is the culprit. Hope this helps.

Water dispenser not working, keeps shutting off.

Often if you experience a freeze up it will take less time to refreeze because the tubing never got clear during the defrost originally. Try the defrost again and this time run at least a gallon of water through the water dispenser.

And although you say keep the vent open I have to offer the opposite solution close the vent. Too much cold air from the freezer is getting into the bottom of the fridge. closing the vent should allow the temp to rise. Assuming yours is a manual vent. If it is thermostatically controlled the controls may be at fault or the vent door may be warped or blocked open by ice.

If this helps you reach the next level of solving your problem please rate me as high as you can and thank you for using fixya.

Freezer and icemaker freezes, jams.

I have run into this before and found it very helpful to re-level the refrigerator. By leaning the fridge back toward the wall about an inch helped keep the water and ice in the tray. Remember to remove items that block air flow in the freezer. Remove the ice bin and clean it then start over with the fridge leaning back a little. Hope this helps.

Water Dispenser Freezing Up

I would suggest that you turn the fridge temp up so that you are not cooling the fridge too much. However I suspect that you have a problem with your freezer section and the airflow is going in at the bottom of the fridge and not feeding in from the top. If you are competent I would suggest removing the back panel (lower internal) on the freezer section and checking that the evaporator coil (finned aluminium) is clear of ice. If you see an ice formation then you probably have a defrost heater out. If you defrost the unit then it will temporarily sort out the problem but I would suggest getting a fridge guy if your wife is getting mad already.
Hope this is of some if limited help.
