Hi there,
Check that your computer doesn't have a microphone (internal maybe) and that it's not switched on.
Cheers.

Hi,
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
goodluck!

Looking for set up drivers for my old Altec Lansing Speakers

If you do not connect the USB port, the ACS495 speakers should work with any computer OS. (Use the control knobs on the speakers instead of the AMS software.)

I've found the drivers with the AMS software listed here: http://download.driverguide.com/driver/ACS495+speakers/Altec+Lansing/d565728.html for Windows 98 through Vista. (I doubt this has the signed drivers needed to work with 64-bit OS versions. You may be able to get it to run in the compatibility mode for Win7 32-bit. But it may not work on Win7 x64.)

I do not know if this link still works but I don't see any evidence of malware. I hope this helps.

Just bought expressionist Ultra, when I plug it into my MacBook Pro no sound comes out.

Click on the Apple icon and look at the sound options in the system preferences. If the Mac does not detect your speakers, you may need to install drivers for them. Try doing that at the Altec Lansing site. Also try the tech support at Altec Lansing and at Apple.

Connected to laptop with vista via USB connection to speakers - NO sound

A letter from Altec: E-mail from Altec Lansing explaining how to use the ACS 495 speakers with Windows XP and Vista: "These speakers require no special drivers or software to work properly. At the current time we do not have AMS software or an USB audio device driver compatible with Windows XP or Vista. There are no plans at this time to develop this software. Your speakers will work with Windows XP & Vista. Just make sure you use the audio cable from the back of the subwoofer to the audio or sound out port of your sound card. Do not use the USB cable. Sound does not come through the USB port The USB cable just allows you to use the AMS software. This software gives you some control over some of the sound features. The same functionality of the AMS software can be gotten by using the buttons on the speakers and the volume control software that comes with your Windows system. If you double click the speaker icon from the system tray, that will open this software up. With the USB connector removed or the computer turned off, STEREO or PRO LOGIC modes can be selected by depressing and holding the center control down for approximately three seconds. The mode selected will be indicated by the color of the LED on the front right speaker. When the light glows yellow it is in the STEREO mode. When the light is green it is in the PRO LOGIC mode."

Altec lansing computer speakers

Try re-installing the sound card drivers. You can access the sound card through your device manager in the control panel. The drivers would have either come in a CD along with your system or you can download them from the internet.

You don't need the software ... hold "center" button to activate or de-activate Pro Logic Mode. That's all.
