Question about Sharp Viewcam VL-A10U Camcorder

1 Answer

My sharp hi8 camcorder will not produce a picture unless it is in the review mode. What can I do?

Camera will not record or play a tape but an image becomes visible when in the review mode. I have tried a cleaning tape but it keeps ejecting it before I can run the cycle.

The loading mechanism is not completing its cycle. That will cause the tape to be ejected as a safety feature so no damage occurs to the tape. This unit will require a "rebuild" to retime the loading mechanism.

Play back pre recorded HI8 tapes on my TRV130?

The Sony DCR-TRV130 is a D8 digital camcorder which is not compatible with Hi8 camcorders.
You need to have an Hi8 camcorder or DCR-TRV103 or similar camcorders that backward compatible with Hi8 camcorders.

When I play tapes I recorded in my ES75 hi8 it just plays static, no pictures

Be sure you have rewound your cassette to the beginning before playing back your video. Also, be sure that the tape heads of your camcorder are clean.
Use head-cleaning tapes regularly to keep your camera in top shape.

I have a GE CG818A Camcorder, when I play it it only plays black and white. Was wondering if there is a used Sony or any camcorder that would play my Video8 P6-120MP tape, in color.

I have the exact same camera and same exact same problem. Any analog Video8 or Hi-8 camcorder or VCR will play these tapes.

By using the same cassettes as Hi8, many (NOT ALL) Digital8 (produced by Sony exclusively) camcorders are able to play analog Video8/Hi8 recordings, preserving compatibility with already recorded analog tapes.

you can connect Digital8 camcorders to your computer to download your movies for editing or Internet use.

As of 2008, Digital8 camcorders have been removed from the equipment offered by Sony.

Can I use Hi8/Digital8 NTSC tapes in my DCR_TRV250E?If so would I be able to playback recorded tapes on the UK televisions?.

DCR-TRV250E is a PAL version camera of the Digital8 format.
Yes you can use Hi8/Digital8 NTSC tapes. The camera will record a PAL digital picture on the tapes which means that you can play back the tapes in PAL and therefore you will be able to playback recorded tapes on UK televisions because they are also of the PAL format.

Hello DutchyFL,
Sony recomends to use Video Head Cleaning Cassette in Playback mode. Video Head is still dirty in your camera thats why you can't see D8 picture.

Problems with playback of HI8 tapes...

What's happening is that the tape in the cassette is being chewed on one side by the camera's tape transporting mechanism during playback, hence the distorted image and sound. The mechanism might be damaged (misalignment) or just dirty. Try not to play other tapes on this unit because they will become permanently damaged. The best way is to find another camcorder (if cleaning does not help). Note that some old cassettes of long recording time will exhibit this behavior more often because of thinner tape used.
