Question about Dell OptiPlex GX280 PC Desktop
What SATA Hard Drive Type Does The Dell Optiplex GX280 Have?
Will A 'Western Digital Caviar SE WD1600JS 160GB SATA II' Hard Drive Work In It?
It It SATA 1 or SATA 2?
Thanks In Advance.
P.S. I Have 13 That Need Hard Drives, They Have P4 HT 2.8Ghz And 3.4Ghz CPU's (mixed)
It makes no difference providing the computer motherboards support SATA interface.
SATA 1 and 2 drivers are in the BIOS. If all the computers have SATA 1 you can upgrade the BIOS to latest version via Dell's support website.

They came in different flavors, so the easiest way would be to look inside and discover if it has SATA connectors or ATA only.
SATA and SATA2 are compatible, you can connect a SATA2 disk to a SATA-only motherboard, usually there's a special jumper on the HDD to set the mode.

make sure that the leads are in there correct slots
One bad lead can cause a computer to continue on a cycle or to shutdown or fail to detect your hard drive
Test all leads that attach to your hard drive including electrical extensions,IDE,SATA
the leads from your motherboard to your hard drive make sure they have a secure connection and are not faulty or just replace them there probably old and faulty
hope this helps
