If the batteries are good, try using a very fine and small piece of glasspaper and very carefully rub the contacts in the battery compartment. Do it gently, but make sure the contacts are clean AND make sure you do the gentle rub on all contacts [i.e., on all the metal parts inside the compartment that will touch the +ve or -ve terminals of your batteries]. This can revive a camera. Sometimes, older batteries leak fluid that is hardly visible, BUT if that fluid gets on the contacts it can form a totally non-conductive surface and, unless that's removed, the camera might not boot/work at all. If u use the glasspaper, it can remove the film and the camera will work. I've done this many times, with success, on friends' cameras.
Good luck!

Can I use 4AA lithium Ion batteries in my Fuji SLR finepix s9600 .Thanks Les

It's better not to, Les.
Fuji suggest using AA Ni-MH batteries or simply alkaline. Others [e.g., Ni-CAD] can cause the camera to overheat and give real problems. Given the relatively low cost anyway, higher capacity Ni-MH batteries and a good charger unit seems the way to go - and will keep the camera healthy!

I recommend to all my customers with AA battery life issues to try Energizer Lithium AA's. Virtually all battery issues solved. I think alkaline batteries are being manufactured poorly, these days, so even brand new they aren't great.

If you are using rechargeable batteries check the output of your charger, a 900mah charger will not charge 2800mah batteries to their capacity.
Stretch.

i have this problem too, there is nothing you can do what so ever, its a problem with the resistor these budget cameras do not last and require constant maintenance, i recommend saving up and buying a better one.
