Try running a wash with a couple of caps of baby sterilising fluid. If the d/w is connected directly to the sink, remove the spigot and check there aren't any blockages. I run a dishwasher cleaner thru my d/w every 3 months and every couple of week I will load the machine for a wash, add tab to dispenser and just after starting a 65 degree wash, I will open the door and tip in approx one capful of sterilising fluid.
Good luck
baby fluid also good as a sluice wash for your washing machine on 90 degrees (w/m empty, approx every 4 weeks).

It's a long shot for you, from the care you describe, but check that it does not stay damp inside. That allows any trapped food particles to get funky. Clean it, wiping door seals and dispenser compartments, clean the filters, especially the drain filter if any. Then run on its hottest cycle with a cup or so of vinegar in it. That should clear up the smell. In future, let the beast get dry inside after use. Normally it will be pretty dry at the end of the cycle, but if you cut short the drying time to save on electricity, then you will have to leave the machine open for a little while, and open a crack all the time.

Top load washer smells like rotten eggs when water is draining into tub

As someone who has had a deep well drilled and found water, but water contaminated with iron and sulfur, I can tell you first hand about the rotten egg smell. The water softener will remove the iron that can turn clothes orange, but doesn't do anything to remove the rotten egg odor. You will need a charcoal (carbon) water filter to eliminate the sulfur smell.

Any time you get a strong smell of rotten eggs it is due to a high concentration of sulfer in the water. Are you on well water? I would suggest using a cleaner like http://www.sani-bath.com/ to clean out your system.

Laundry room smells like rotten eggs

Does the sewer drain line have a trap at the bottom that prevents sewer gas from entering the room? If the smell seems to be coming from the washer itself, run a wash cycle empty with a cup of baking soda, detergent and hot water to clean the interior.

After about 18 months, washing machine smells like rotten egg/fart. Is there anyplace to clean it out?

If you have well water, Check your "Annode" Rods in the Hot Water Heater. Had mine do this. I had to Replace the Whole thing as it built up to much Contaminents from the "Hard" Water.

Make sure the rubber door gasket is clean. Pull it back and clean under and around it. The gasket will collect dirt and begin to mildew causing various odors. Run the machine empty, boil a medium pot of water to almost boiling, then put it in the machine during the wash cycle. This will help clean the lines, during the rinse cycle place a 1/2 cup of vinegar in the unit. Make sure you are using HE detergent. 1-2 tablespoons will due. If your using liquid fabric softner, dilute it by half. These machine use less water than a typical top loader and can't dissolve regular detergent effectively. There by causing your lines to get clogged with gunk.

Rotten egg smell

This is a common problem. There is a build up of grime in the hidden crevices of the machine. To help resolve this problem, put a cup and a half of good dishwashing power in the machine and then place it on HOT full capacity. Then place fill the fabric softener with bleach. Run the unit half of the wash cycle and then stop it and allow it to soak for 15 minutes. Then allow it to finish the cycle. Repeat this process once a week for 3 weeks. Also you may want to stop using fabric softener if you are using it. The softener acts like a surfactant and adheres to the upper crevices of the machine. After a while bacteria starts to build. The bacteria varies in composition; but a very little known bacteria thrive in these humid areas and gives off the odor you described. The bacteria is commonly known as SRB’s. Here is some more information on this subject. http://www.nesc.wvu.edu/ndwc/articles/QandA/OTsp00_Q_A.pdf

Repair man told me this is common with front load washers. I was told to put Sunlight dish washing detergent (for dishwashers not hands) in the machine (about 1/2 cup) and do a hot wash with the machine empty.
