Question about HP LaserJet CM1017 MFP All-In-One Color Printer

1 Answer

I have an HP CM1017 all in one printer. I've changed all of the cartridges and now when I print color, I get overlapping. Black and White prints fine just when I use color. I've cleaned it, calibrated it, taken the cartridges out and reinstalled them. Nothing is working. Help!

1. I can easily assume that one of your cartridges is the faulty. Even if they new, it is possibly that there's faulty with it, possibly the one of the color (as you've mentioned that this happens only when you make color print outs.)

2. The drum could also be the root of this issue; this overlapping print-outs happens when there's too much waste ink (overflowing) in the waste ink tank, so please check your drum and remove the wasted ink.

If possible, please scan a printed copy and upload it on a free hosting website like tinypic.com so that I can see it. I need to take a look at the prints so that I can give you the proper and specific solution for you.
(please don't open or take apart any of the new cartridges if in case you need to get replacement.)

Good luck.

Thanks for using FixYa.

Thanks for responding. I didn't even know the printer had a waste ink tank so that could definitely be the problem. Where do I find the waste ink tank???? I'll try that first and if that doesn't fix it, I'll post a picture for you to look at.

I am sorry for the late reply, I wasn't online so I didn't know the notification. Well, let me give you a tutorial,

Open this link How to disassemble and assemble hp laser printer's drum (from 1 to 7)
and look at the pictures from number 1 to 7 and follow the same instructions, You'll see that there's ink inside the drum which are accumulated and are no longer useful. The powder look gray/grey in color, remove all the wasted toner and clean the drum components and reassemble it.

[Don't touch your hand directly on the drum rod, pick it up from the edge]

Let me know after you are done. I don't want to mention this and that, since, that tutorial is also a long way, I might make you more confused. I'll be waiting for your response.

    Good luck.

The printer instructions you sent dont match the printer I have. I have a CM1017 and the cartridge area looks different.

Sorry, you misunderstood me, I didn't mean the printer, I was trying to show you how to disassemble the Drum, all hp laser printers' drums are more or less similar and the way to open them is also similar.

    Please do check again.

    Good luck.

HP 722C has quit printing black in color draft

WORKAROUND: Select EconoFast or Draft as the print quality setting in the printer properties. This will prevent the color cartridge from being used. - Or - Try another color cartridge. The color cartridge is used to print grayscale images in Normal or Best print modes, so if one color has run out, the printout will have the wrong tint. With a full color cartridge, the colors can be properly combined to create a composite black. CAUSE: When printing with Normal or Best as the print quality setting, the HP Deskjet 710C or 720C or 722C series printer will use the color ink to improve print quality output, even when printing a grayscale image.

How to change the ink cartridge

Checking the ink levels
  1. Open the HP Director .
  2. Click Settings , point to Print Settings , and then click Printer Toolbox .
  3. After the Printer Toolbox opens, click the Estimated Ink Level tab.
  4. For information on obtaining replacement cartridges, click Print Cartridge Ordering Information .
Replacing the print cartridges
  1. Make sure the HP all-in-one is on. WARNING: If the HP all-in-one is off when the print-carriage access door is lifted to access the print cartridges, the HP all-in-one will not release the cartridges for changing. Damage may occur to the HP all-in-one if the print cartridges are not docked safely on the right side when you try to remove them.
  2. Open the print-carriage access door by lifting from the front center of the device, until the door locks into place. The print carriage is on the far right side of the HP all-in-one. c00228292.jpg 1 - Print carriage access door 2 - Print carriage
  3. When the print carriage is idle and silent, press down on the end of each cartridge to snap it out of the carriage. If replacing the tri-color print cartridge, remove the print cartridge from the slot on the left. If replacing the black or photo cartridge, remove the print cartridge from the slot on the right. c00228293.jpg 1 - Print cartridge slot for the tri-color print cartridge 2 - Print cartridge slot for the black and photo print
  4. Gently pull the print cartridge toward you, out of its slot.
  5. If removing the black print cartridge to install the photo or gray photo print cartridge, store the black print cartridge in the print cartridge protector.
  6. Remove the new print cartridge from its packaging and, being careful to touch only the black plastic, gently remove the plastic tape by using the pink pull tab. CAUTION: Do not touch the copper-colored contacts or ink nozzles. Touching these parts can result in clogs, ink failure, and bad electrical connections. c00228294.jpg 1 - Copper-colored contacts 2 - Plastic tape with pink pull tab (must be removed before installing) 3 - Ink nozzles under tape c00228295.jpg
  7. Slide the new print cartridge forward into the empty slot. Push the print cartridge forward until it clicks into place. If the print cartridge you are installing has a white triangle on its label, slide the print cartridge into the slot on the left. The label for the slot is green with a solid white triangle on it. If the print cartridge you are installing has a white square or a white pentagon on its label, slide the print cartridge into the slot on the right. The label for the slot is black with a solid white square and a solid white pentagon on it. c00228296.jpg

My hp Color Laserjet 3550 Printer wont print black when it is out of color ink

The 3550 won't print in any color if any of the colors are out. You'll have to replace the color ink that's empty to get it to print.

In the future, if you're just printing black and white, you can select "Print in Grayscale" from the print properties to just use the black ink cartridge, which will help the color cartridges to last longer.

My printer has an almost full black cartridge but will not print.

Check the ink lines, the printer head might be clogged, If thats not fixing anything then check your printer settings on the computer and remove the color option. Changing it to black and white can somtimes just be from color, not just black.

The color cartridge runs out very quickly even though I rarely use it. I make sure to print in black and white, and I manually choose the option "Use Black Cartridge only" but the color cartridge runs out...

Printer manufacturers design their printers to print some color mixed in with the black when you are only printing black. That is why your color cartridge is running out when you only print black and why it prints "weird colors" when the color cartridge is empty. Printer manufacturers sell the printers at a loss and make up the profit on the cartridges.
