My 2wire 2071-A modem may not be working??? i am

My 2wire 2071-A modem may not be working??? i am getting "a network cable is unplugged" message evertime that I try to connect to internet although I have replaced all cables without success. the power light on my modem continually flashes green- no continuous green light at any stage. I have tried reinstalling Bigpond via installation cd however when I get to second stage the light requires to go continuous green however it keeps flashing green!! can you help??

It appears to be a DSL modem. You don't need a driver, but a username and password for your internet provider. Here is how you install.
connect to phone line then usb or network port (drivers should be built in xp) open your internet browser and type 192.168.1.1 to open the internal web page. It should step you through the username (email address) password. Must ask your internet provider for those.

SOURCE: Cannot connect to my Internet.

With the DSL light always flashing, it means that either the ADSL signal (synchronization) does not reach your modem, or your modem cannot 'read' the signal.

You need to determine if the problem is from one of the following places :

  • outside of your house (your land line or ISP equipment) or from the modem;
  • your telephone-cable inside your house or
  • one of your equipment;


Try the following manipulations to determine from where the default comes :

  1. Determine if the problem is in your house or on the land line
    • Unplug each and every equipment which is connected to your telephonic installation (Fax, phones, answering machines etc);
    • Using the shortest telephone cable (RJ11) you possess, plug only your modem to the main telephone jack of your house.
    • If the DSL LED still flashes continuously, the problem is somewhere between your ISP's equipment and your house. You should call them and expose the situation. At this stage, you can't do much else.

  2. Determine if the problem is in your house installation
    If the DSL LED lights up when it is plugged to the main telephone jack, then it is either one of your equipment which is at fault, or the house installation. To pinpoint the problem, do the following :
    • With all the other equipment still unplugged, try the modem on all the other telephone jacks you have around the house.
    • If the DSL flashes continuously on one of the jacks, you will have found the source of your miseries. Depending on your ISP's terms and conditions, you will either have to call them of call for the services of a third-party technician to solve the problem.
    • If the DSL lights up correctly on all the telephone jacks, then your house telephone installation is good. Proceed to the next series of tests.

  3. Determine which equipment is at fault
    • Plus your modem to one telephone jack and wait for the DSL line to light solid.
    • Use a splitter (ADSL filter) to plug the equipments you possess (telephone, fax etc) one by one. Verify each time if the DSL LED is still lit or flashes continuously.
    • If one of the equipment causes the DSL LED to flash, it is that equipment which causes your problem.
    • If every equipment causes the DSL LED to flash, the it is the splitter (ADSL filter) which is causing the problem. You can confirm this hypothesis by testing each and every ADSL filter you have in your possession.
    • Replace any faulty equipment and you should have eliminated the problem.
If nothing of this solves your problem, you won't have any choice but call you ISP. Don't hesitate to tell them all tests you will have done.

May I also make some recommendations :
  1. Use a power surge protector (not a UPS though) to plug your modem to the electric outlet BUT plug it directly to the telephone jack;
  2. Make sure your modem is plugged in as far as possible from UPS, television, etc.;
  3. If possible, don't plug the modem in the same electric outlet as other equipments;
  4. Don't use any telephone extension cable to plug your modem to the telephone jack.

you can check if the ethercable is loose or if you have a spare ethernet cable (rj45) you can replace the one that youre using

2-wire modem won,t come up in connections,and don,t know how to configure modem dsl light solid green and can,t find lan settings,it,s a 2071-a


If you know your local network address side address then just log into the 2Wire with "http.XXX.XXX.XXX."
Example my 2Wire: "http.192.168.1.254." I'm not sure but I think the 192.XXX.XXX address is default.
The box has a little web server that will allow you to reconfigure to default but if your provider programmed it you may need info from them.
Sounds like the DSL side is working.
Good luck!

Oh, if you have the info from your provider to set it up, you might have to push the reset button on the box to reset it to factory default.
Then it gets a little complicated.

I have a 2wire 2071 - A modem and it wont read my ethernet cable


First check device manager to see if the copmuter recognizes the card, if it dont use the add hareware app, and have windows plug &play try to locate it. then open the case and remove the card with windows running and replace it in the slot , P&P may then locate it if windows doesnt, then the ethernet card may of had a voltage spike go thru it and fried the card.

Configure D-Link Wireless N Router DIR-615 for 2wire 2071-A modem


You do not need the disc. Using you browser, login into the router using the default IP 192.168.0.1 unless this has been changed and you should be able to configure your router.
login ADMIN and pass is blamk

Login in using your browser and go to the wireless settings and set-up a wireless password/key. Remember the key because each device will now need it to connect. You can also turn OFF Broadcast SSID and your network name will not be shown on anyone's device. You must remember the network name when using this method.

Dsl light flashes red constantly


Whenever your dsl light on the 2wire modem turns red,it only means that there is a problem with the dsl connection to the modem. Here are some ways on how you can isolate the problem

1. check if your modem is properly connected to the phone jack by unplugging and replugging you phone cable
2. try to reboot the modem
3. if still getting the same lights, contact your ISP

Suddenly lost internet connection on 2Wire DSL modem


hmmm...only thing that makes sense here is that your dSL is unhappy...did you check that phone line into the modem? that's what the internet light means when it's out, actually..if its not the line, then it's the modem..

not much else that is off on this.
