I formatted my archos and after that i cant connect it to my Pc anymore, if i plug it into my USB slot it only says device not recognized, and when i check device manger the only thing i see was unknown device.........i have tried alot just to make it work again. am really disturbed please help solve it

As you have mentioned that you have formatted the unit and then connected it to pc. So first of all check the basic things. 1) Remove the usb wire completely.And check if any dust in the wires or the usb wire is got cut in between.If no such symptom continue next 2) In your pc there are two usb slots in some there are 4 usb slots.So try connecting the wire in other usb slot then check.If same problem continue next 3) If you have any other usb wire which you have confirmation that it is working then try it with that usb wire.If you dont have wire then get new usb wire.The usb wires are not very costly.You can get it from local computer hardware parts store.If same problem with other wire too continue next 4) Check out the usb slot where you are connecting the usb wire in your pc if its got loose or moved then it will not detect the device connected to it.So press the usb wire in the slot with your hand bit tight and wiggle the wire in the slot then check keeping the wire pressed in the slot. If same problem continue next 5) Then it clears then problem is not with usb wire or its connection.It can be driver problem as its showing unknown device. When you view device information in Device Manager, you may see a device listed as Unknown Device next to a yellow question mark. It may be difficult to determine the cause of this unknown device, because there are few indications of what generates it. The main reason for Unknown Device to display in your Device Manager is because you have a device that is not working correctly. To fix this issue, obtain an updated driver for the device. The device does not have a device driver: When a device driver for a device is not available, Device Manager displays the device as Unknown Device and puts it in theOther devices branch. This is very common with universal serial bus (USB)

Not recognized by my laptop

Good morning, afternoon, evening or night; whatever time of day you are viewing this solution post. Thank you for choosing FixYa to assist you. Your computer is not recognizing your Archos Vision A14VG Digital Media Player? The computer should be able to recognize it because your digital media player is compatible with the three major operating systems: Windows, Mac and Linux. Maybe a Firmware or driver update will help.
  1. First, make sure your laptop has USB 2.0 hi-speed ports installed on it (If you are not sure if these are installed on your laptop, check your laptop's user manual).
  2. Connect your Archos to your laptop.
  3. On your laptop, go into Device Manager and expand the Universal Serial Bus Controllers group. Double click each device in that group until you find your digital media player.
  4. Update the driver.
  5. If it doesn't need an update, click try uninstalling the driver then reinstall it again.
If the computer still doesn't recognize your device, Try these websites to see if the device may need a firmware or driver update from there.

If your computer is still not recognizing it, try connecting your device to a desktop PC. If the desktop PC recognizes your device, then the problem is coming from the USB ports on your laptop. They may not have the amount of power needed for the device to connect to your laptop. If the PC desktop doesn't recognize the device, then the problem is that one of the drivers in the Archos is defective (not working anymore). Once that happens, the only way the device can work again is if the defective driver gets replaced. If your warranty for the product is still in effect, send the product back to its manufactuer and have them look at it. I hope this is just a driver updating issue. Archos won't connect by USB to computers

You should keep your eye on the device after its been plugged to the PC it will give you 2 options "charge" or "usb" you ca not establish a connection without picking usb connection option on the Archos screen when it pops up. If you are doing so and problem still existed then i would recommend you to download the latest windows media player. Because it comes with new devices sync driver update.

My archos 605 [160gb ] not recognized on my PC

I recommend trying your archos on a different computer just to see if it is a pc or archos problem. Your pc should come right up and ask if you want to charge or use the usb port or both. Try another computer.

My archos wont responed anymore when i plug into my pc

Make sure the usb cable is not damaged you can try to connect to pc by docking the device to DVR station or mini charging dock too there is 2 type of connections available for charging stations. By using another type of Usb cables. Mini usb 5 pins to usb.Same cable used for sony PSP also.

The archos 5 won't connect to the computer with the usb.

Ijust bought a archos 5 250gb , conected via usb and drag some music from pc to archos . A few hours late the archos stopped, the pc don´t recognize the archos .
I pressed the on/off and vol together and formated the aarchos .
now had been disaster , the display just appeared the ARCOS Entertainement you way . the pc don´t regognizer the ARCHOS, NOTHING APPEARED .

My archos 605 has got recovery code 102 and i cant get it to conect to my pc to fix it can u halp

I fixed my son's 605 4 GB had Recovery code (104) on it. This might work for other error codes too. These are the steps i followed 
* Use the computer for this process that you always used for this archos Archos should be plugged in toPc before starting the process.
* Download the firware Upgrade 2.1
* Plug the Archos to Pc 
* When the white option screen comes up pick the format disk
* Wait until all done do not pick any option on archos after format is done Pc should recognize your archos in 5 seconds 

* Put the firmware in root section of the archos not in any folder.
* Safely remove the usb for Archos from your pc first and then unplug the cable.
* Do not pick any option on the Archos screen
* Just turn it off from the power button by holding it until it turns off
* Wait about 5 minutes and plug it back to pc 
* it will come up with white screen again but this time it will start Update you will see the progress bar moving, wait until it is all done, it will shut off. Turn it back on and  your archos will be back to normal

PC no longer recognizes my Archos 605

in the archos....select SYSTEM....change windows media player to PC Hard Drive and this worked for me
