I got the blue screen of death on my Dell Dimension 8250. I was able to boot once in safe mode and retrieve 1/2 of my files. Now it won't boot at all and is making a ticking noise. I would like to retrieve the rest of my files in My Documents. Is there a way to do this?

Hi there,

If you have faulty RAM, this can cause massive instability with your system. Is the ticking noise coming from the hard drive? If your hard drive is failing or has bad sectors, this can also cause problems as the Operating System tries to use that damaged sector.

Try to test the unit using a new RAM modules.

Let me know here again for any development.

There isn’t much you can do to fix a hardware component except replace
it. But if your problem appears to be software related, you can always
reinstall Windows if you have a Windows installation disk or a recovery
    disk
