Question about Sharp AFS60NX Thru-Wall/Window Air Conditioner

1 Answer

Smoke is coming out of the a/c

I also now hear the sound of water in the a/c. The smoke does not have a burning smell. It has no smell at all. It looks like the smoke you see on dry ice or when you first open a freezer door. It does not seemed to effected the a/c but need to know what is causing the problem and how to fix it. A smoking a/c does not look good.

Ice probably formed on the outside of the unit and the a/c is working to defrost itself. Check out this page: http://andysair.blogspot.com/2010/01/looks-like-smoke-is-coming-out-of-my.html

White smoke from air vents while ac was on,greasy film on window while defrost is on/heater coil?

Yes. The heater core is leaking bad. The white smoke is the coolant and steam. Be sure to add water to the radiator before you burn up the engine.

Smoke coming out air vents

Is it smoke or water vapor? If it's smoke, you probably have an electrical problem somewhere. If it's water vapor and you live in a very humid climate, it should dissipate soon after turning on the A/C. Is there a noticeable smell (burning plastic?) along with the smell? If so, have your car checked out by a qualified technician - it could be a fire hazard.

White smoke coming from back of engine it is not water or oil problem

It sounds very much like you have a head gasket blown, or a cracked cylinder. You say it isn't water, yet you have to keep topping up the radiator. So basically, it IS water.

There is white smoke coming out the tailpipe no smell of antifreeze

If it doesn't smell like sweet then you most likely got a bad tank of gas. Just to be safe keep an eye on your engine temp. and coolant levels.

I HAVE WHITE SMOKE COMING FROM TAIL PIPE WHEN IDILING.NOT RUNNING HOT JUST SMOKE

If the smoke has a sweet smell, it is burning antifreeze, if not, it probably just water in your fuel, add some water remover to the tank.

White smoke and smell of eggs

White smoke in the exhaust, more so on a cold start. That's steam. Water is getting into the combustion chamber. Most likely coolant.
Put your hand in the white smoke to capture the odor. (don't burn yourself)
What does your hand smell like? Coolant (anti-freeze & water) smells sweet.
Likeliest cause = head gasket. Possible = cracked head - depending on how hot it got. Less likely = cracked intake manifold.
Maybe a blown head gasket

Hi,

Sounds typical of head gasket failure.

With this you get oil into cylinders / water into cylinders, burning oil, loosing water - but no leaks. "boiling" of radiator and overflows.

Check your coolant and oil levels - they will be low.

Get a few quotes for a head gasket replacement - and timing belt change, as it has to come off when you do this anyway & no sense putting an old one on - they often snap if retensioned.

If this solves your problem, please take a moment to rate as Fixya! thanks.
