Hi Rols18

you probably need the device driver from Dell to enable the onboard audio on your motherboard.

you can get it from the dell support site here:

this link is the main driver page for the GX260:

http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/driverslist.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=gen&os=WLH&osl=en&SystemID=PLX_PNT_P4_GX260&catid=-1&impid=-1

or if you want the Audo Driver directly:
http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/format.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=gen&deviceid=2430&libid=3&releaseid=R56339&vercnt=3&formatcnt=0&SystemID=PLX_PNT_P4_GX260&servicetag=&os=WW1&osl=en&catid=-1&dateid=-1&typeid=-1&formatid=-1&impid=-1&checkFormat=true.

download the offered file, and install it.
reboot , and now go to Control Panel > Sound and Audio Devices (in WinXP) - and check that default output is now your sound card.

You should be able to open it up and use one of the existing PCI slots thats provided on the motherboard. If there is software included you will need to install that software and most likely update it. Hope this helps

Hello, I have a Dell Optiplex GX620 desktop

I would remove the new card, and recheck vol. Next, change PCI slots. Pick up a cheap audio card and see how works. Good, luck

I want to boot from an USB thumb drive. I know it to work on another computer. I also want to boot from an external USB DVD drive. It works fine on another computer. In both cases I use Puppy Linux...

Most modern mother board will boot from USB devices as long as the USB is included in the boot list of the BIOS and first in line regardless of OS.
Set your BIOS to boot from USB and off you go.

Sound of my pc removes after 5 mins from installing drivers. my pc is dell GX620

if you have reinstalled corect drivers from the dell website
or the cd that was supplied with it, there shouldnt be a problem.

If your using a operating system that was not made for these cd drivers you could have conflict issues, search for card make and os that you are using now maybe there is update.

Since the card does work for 5 minutes, and then stops it could be a possible short in the wiring to speakers or amps. make suire there is no shortages that can cause the card to over heat and trip out. hope this helps

Sound card

Your laptop should have a sound card built into the board. To make sure, check for three round color coded holes anywhere along the edge of your laptop frame and ports. The Sound output is usually green. The sound in is blue and the mic in is red. If you plug in speakers n the green and don't here music, then check to see your SOUND DRIVERS are installed. If they are not no sound will play. The check for Sound drivers, right-click My Computer, then chose HARDWARE and let it list the components. Any one with a yellow mark needs drivers.
