Jacobs makes a couple different kinds. You say no screw inside so I would guess it is the tapered fit. It will require a couple of shims to be driven in between the chuck and head of the drill to press the chuck off. There are tools to do this but sometimes this can be done with shims. Shim each side the same and tap them in equally. If you are familiar with the pickle fork used on auto's to remove ball-joints, something like this may work as well. I hope this helps you.

How to remove chuck

Sometimes there is a screw in the middle inside the chuck remove the inside screw beware to get it out turn it allways clockwise instead of counterclockwise. it that was done but the chuck itself must be turn off counterclockwise. SImply take the most great possible allen wrench set it in and converts the longest section firmly in a vise or other good fixative object (always wear safety glasses )and if its possible turn in the left make power connection and keep the machine firmly and give the case even with the rotational force a short brisk turn, and then he runs quietly from the ashes.

from a Jacobs chuck with a key to a keyless chuck, I think, but if no screw inside is present , heat the chuck slowly with a gas heater and use a preferred green colored loctite for screwless chucks to remove is the same way as described.

it sounds like you will need to replace the chuck on the drill. a worn chuck or a cheep brand may be your trouble.buy a good Jacob chuck and this will most likely fix your problem

I,m having trouble getting the chuck off my 13618 bosch 18v hammerdrill. I have removed the screw then chucked a piece of hexed stock into it and reversed a half inch impact to it and it won't bre

Make sure it is in low gear on drill mode. try with just a bar in the socket and hit the end to shock it. This is sometimes better than a constant force.

I have a hitachi dv18dl and the chuck is broken i just need to no what type of screw is in the chuck so i can remove it? thanks

THE CHUCK SCREW IS EITHER A TORX BIT, POSSIBLE 20 TORX OR ITS A PHILIPS OR SLOTTED SCREW, REMEMBER THE SCREW IS LEFT HAND THREAD AND ALLOT OF THE TIMES IS LOCTITED IN SO IT DOESN'T UNSCREW WHEN THE ITEM IN THE CHUCK SLIPS AND RUBS ON THE TOP OF IT. IT SHOULD REMOVE FAIRLY EASY!! MAKE SURE WHEN REMOVING THE CHUCK THE TOOL IS IN LOW GEAR/ DRILL MODE OR YOU WILL FIGHT IT FOREVER AND POSSIBLY DOEING DAMAGE TO THE CLUTCH/TRANNY ASSY. THE CHUCK WILL UNSCREW STANDARD THREAD, SHOULD BE A 2 MINUTE PROSSES TO REMOVE THE CHUCK UNLESS ITS ON REALLY HARD. JIMS TOOL SERVICE

How do i replace the jacob chuck on a hilti hammer drill?

Open the jaws of the chuck all the way open. Inside the chuck you will see a slotted screw. Use a large flat head screw driver and remove screw. It will have left handed threads.

After you remove the screw put the end of the chuck in a vise where the 6 flats sides are. Put the drill in low gear and reverse. Hold tight and turn on the drill. This should run the chuck right off the spindle.

Need to change chuck

When you buy a replacement chuck it will have detailed instructions- at least Jacob's brand chucks do. Basically there is a retaining screw inside the chuck that needs to come out first- it may be left-hand threads . Then you put the short end of a 1/4" or larger allen wrench in the chuck and close it tightly. Set the drill on a bench with the chuck off of the bench and strike the allen wrench with a mallet in a counterclockwise direction. Do this several times, then you'll be able to spin the chuck off by hand. Reverse the process to install the new chuck.

Trying to remove a jacobs key less chuck 500 series fitted to a DS18DL Hitachi drill

It twists off counter clock wise. The best way I have found to remove the chuck is to stick a screw driver into the chuck, tighten the chuck, hold the screw driver in some type of vise and run it all full speed in reverse

Chuck is locked open

you have three jaws in your chuck, one of them will probably have a small burr on it causing it to stick.

try this...

tap the chuck with a small hammer then try to use the chuck key gently in the opposite key hole to the hammer blows. turn chuck though 120degrees and repeat.

if this does not work chucks are fairly universal and easily replaced (i would recommend a keyless jacobs). you can get the old one off by removing the ph2 (phillips) machine screw inside the centre of the chuck... be careful!! this screw is usually soft and counter threaded... when screw removed bash off the chuck with a hammer and cold chisel...

good luck
