Depends! The amount of RAM has nothing to do with capacity of the hard drive. If your motherboard is a P3, it probably has to memory slots that will handle 256mb each (512 total). It sounds like you have a 128mm chip and a 256mb chip installed now. I won't even attempt to run XP with less than 256mb of RAM. You can run XP with 128mb, but not very well. With Windows XP SP2, you will have to have at least 256MB. Most P4 or newer computers use DDR RAM wich can be bought at larger capacity (ie 1000MB).

Simply put, no. It can handle 2 gigs TOTAL but not a single 2 gig chip in one slot.

What is the largest drive I should put in my Compaq Presario 2200 PC Notebook?

Usually the drive which can be put in your machine depends on what you want to use the machine for. But usually to attain optimum performance it is advisable to put in a hard disk in accordance to the RAM on your system. The ration of RAM to hard drive should be about 1 Gig Ram to 100Gig Hard drive. This should help you decide what size of drive to put.
Hope this solution has been helpful?

How many bits?

Bits?

You might mean Bytes. Bit means Binary Digit - either a 0 or 1 - the most basic language of a computer, and not very meaningful to most people.

But, 8 bits make a byte; a million bytes makes a megabyte; and a billion bytes makes a gigabyte...which is probably what you're looking for.

Are you wondering how many bytes of RAM memory you have, or how many bytes of space are on your hard drive?

You can find out how much RAM you have by right-clicking on the My Computer icon on your desktop, then left clicking on Properties. The General tab should show how much RAM you have.

Close that.

Then, double-click on my computer; right-click on your hard drive (should be (C:); and left-click on Properties. Where it says "Capacity" it will show how big your hard drive is.

If the computer is less than a few years old, both values should be in gigabytes.

I have sys which contain main board marrcury(p1865d7).now i will run visual studio2008 but not properly run so plz give suggetion @ processor & ram

According to Microsoft: Minimum: 1.6 GHz CPU, 384 MB RAM, 1024x768 display, 5400 RPM hard disk Recommended: 2.2 GHz or higher CPU, 1024 MB or more RAM, 1280x1024 display, 7200 RPM or higher hard disk
I know that Visual Studio 2008 runs fairly slowly on a 2.4GHz laptop with 1GB RAM, so I can't imagine that it would run all that well on a 1.6GHz machine.

Keeps freezing, but works in safe mode, increase RAM?

If you've only got 384mb of RAM then yes an increase would definitely help. You're probably running with close to the bare minimum of RAM. If you're machine (and budget) can handle it, go for 1 Gig at least.

Long periods of hard drive activity

Most likely, it could be the amount of ram you have in your computer. If your running low on ram and it is using the virtual memory your computer can be running all the time causing a slow down in whatever you do. Check to see how much ram you have :)

"out of memory" message appears when I try to print a spreadsheet

Obviously, your PC is quite an older one with less than the required memory. You might also have run other programs that might be hindering your MS works 8.0 as these programs are memory intensive! Solution: Add more than 2 Gig bytes of new RAM ( shop around for a cheap/reliable one )to your PC system as the required memory! As for the page file ( find it under 'Control Panel - System/ System Settings - Advanced - Performance Options - Advanced - Virtual Memory - C: or D: or whichever your logical drives you might have' ), try to increase it to 2 Gig bytes!

A security factor worth taking note of: Use drive D: or whichever data drive your PC uses for its data as sometimes hackers try to hack into your System/ OS drive like C: so as to compromise the IT security.

Your MS works 8.0 might require a re-installation after the increase of the RAM and the page file!

Compaq evo n400c question

Sure, just make sure it has a decent size hard drive, minimum of 80 gig, or she may need a seperate drive for storage that she can keep at home thus taking care of that, I havs just seen portable usb drives for $50-80.00. And make sure she has a dvd drive, that is a must have. She will need eithe xp or vista, most programs are running xp, and Vista now. And at least a gig of ram, if it's XP she can get away with 512mgs, but vista needs more memory and resoursourses as it is ram intensive. That should do it Good luck to you both,, andthat is a great gift for a dad toi give his daughter, I have grandkids, and they are really getting into computers at age 6-7. Peace be with you,Gym
