Question about Printers & Copiers

1 Answer

I have a Canon Pixma MP530 all in one printer, scanner, copier. I would like to know if I could scan 35mm color slides on the flatbed scanner on this machine into my computer. I have a number of slides that I want to then put on a disc for my family. Will this machine do this? If so, could you tell me how to do this and do I need any sort of adapter? Then could I scan several slides a once? I would really appreciate your help. Thank you. George Johnson

Hello csj4

The Pixma series of scanners isn't going to be able to do this for you. This level of functionality is offered in higher end flat bed scanners that will have attachments you can use for scanning in slides.

HP has some scanners that will do this. I haven't checked w/ Canon but they may have them as well. If you'd like assistance w/ finding a scanner that will do this for you, just let us know.

You may also want to consider using a service to place the slides in digital format for you, too. If you aren't making slides anymore and you don't need a high end scanner for any other reason, that may be a more cost-effective way to go.

If you have ANY other questions, etc on this topic, just post back here w/ them. We'll be happy to continue to assist you.

If I answered your questions and you have no other questions or need of our assistance on this topic...

...would you kindly take just a moment to close the problem by assigning a FIXYA rating for my "solution"? I would be very grateful for your generosity and show of appreciation.

Thank you once again for using FixYa! Have a beautiful day.

The higher end scanners I was referring to cost in the hundreds of dollars usually. They're very nice, however - but expensive.

How to scan negatives?

You will need to check your Canon software that came with your Pixma MX310. I have a stand alone Canon Canoscan 8800F scanner that have the capability to scan 35mm film strip and 35mm mounted slide, the software included the feature for it.

How to scan a slide on flatbed scanner

This model Canon MX700 cannot scan slides.
A flat bed scanner that can scan slides and negatives has a light scource that shines through the slide and negative fand is detected by the scanner sensor.
I suggest you purchase a slide scanner, it will be cheaper that getting a new flat bed scanner with slide capability.

Canon mx350 Won't scan. Goes through all the steps. But will not scan to pc.

Try to set up again new scanner with the same name and remove the old scanner icon.

Also, uninstall and reinstall the printer software might help you solve your problem.

Scanning 35mm slides and saving to computer

In order to scan 35mm slides to your computer, you need a scanner that has the capability of doing this. These scanners will either come with a 35mm adapter that will allow you to scan the slides, or there are scanners that will scan only 35mm slides. A good recommendation is either this or this.

Thanks and please take a moment to rate as fixya.
