Question about Toshiba e-Studio 35 Copier

1 Answer

When we moved our copier it was laid down on its side. Now the scanner assembly is a mess. The heads moved and the cables came off the pulleys. Can this be fixed?

Yes it can be fixed. You will need to call an authorized Toshiba Service Center as the tech will need the scanner "jigs" to reposition the scanner back to factory specs. Also note this may not be the only damage to the machine. Placing this machine on it side while moving may have spilled toner and or developer inside the machine. This may require dis-assembly and cleaning as well as replacement and recalibration of the developer. If you have a Toshiba Dealer near you, I would ask them what they charge per hour for labor and if they have a technician trained on this model. I would estimate 3 to 4 hours labor time to correct these issues. If needed, add another $100 for Developer.
Good Luck and Thank You for using Fixya.

C3100 call service

C3100 is a scanner carriage problem... The error code indicates that the "home signal" is not reaching the main board in the required time; The problem could be a bad board, bad motor or something mechanical...

Keeping it simple: look through the copy glass; there are two main parts or carriages. The first part is the assembly with the lamp and single mirror. The second part is the assembly with two mirrors. Both of these *ssemblies ride on rails and are connected to each other by a system of cables and pulleys. When unboxed, the KM3035 has 3 yellow screws on the upper left cover that lock the scanner assembly to prevent damage during transit... were these screws removed? Does the scanner assembly move at all when you power the machine on? Look through the copy glass: the scanner cables should be seen connected to the carriages and going around the pulleys; the cables should not be loose or laying on the deck. The home sensor might not be visible to you if the both carriages are in the way, but it is a small black object with two projections. A flag on the carriage slides between the gap created by the projections (this is the home position). Looking through the glass, the sensor is located at the left rear corner and it should not be hanging or tilted.

My workcentre PE 220 scanner locked . How can I scanner unlocked? Because there is no button in scanner???

Rick Kasper's solution is a good start. There is no mechanical lock for the scanner head (below the glass plate upon which the material to be copied may be placed).
The "scanner" in this context is the optical head that slides along a rail below the glass plate. Its movement from the home position is monitored by a photo transistor. If the scanner head fails to release from its park position under the left hand window as it should, including during the power-up sequence, the failure message will appear.
If you hear a fairly loud whining sound (from the stalled scanner head drive motor) during the power-up sequence followed by the "scanner locked" warning, it indicates that the scanner head is hung up mechanically in its park position below the left hand scanner glass. Verify this by opening the Automatic Document Feeder (ADF) before powering up and note lack of movement of the scanner head assembly. Following the sequence outlined in the service manual, remove the scanner + ADF assembly, open the scanner assembly and move the scanner head on its rail to free it up. Take care to reassemble the scanner head with the white nylon slides properly placed on either side of the head.
If however, during the power up sequence you do not hear the whining noise, it is a sure indication that the motor has either failed or that no drive power is applied, but this is rare compared to mechanical hang-up.

Ive got a chevy tahoe 2002 and the passenger side window wont roll up all the way. When i get it up all the way it slides down about 4 inches

Assuming you have power windows. Had similar problem on 2000 Buick LaSabre. Had to replace electric motor drive assembly inside of door. The motor moves a steel cable around nylon/plastic pulleys. In time the cable cuts into the pulley. Access motor assembly by removing inner door panel. I had to purchase assembly from the dealer ($$$). Digital snapshots as you disassemble will help you reassemble. Job took about 1.5 hours, and I had never done it before.

HP6110 OfficeJet scanner squeaks

Make sure that the scanner is level and not twisted as this will put unnecessary strain on the scanner frame and pulleys. If your system has springs on the pulley cables then this may be the cause of the problem as they may be worn out or chafing or rusted and need replacing.

Also make sure that the guide rails are not obstructed and brush them out and clean thoroughly and if necessary carefully apply some silicone grease to them.

Also check that the carriage assembly is not bent or twisted which will put unnecessary strain on the drive mechanism and pulleys.

Also check that the pulleys are not bent or the pulley mounts are not bent.

Feeding is not completed within the specified time after starting feeding. (The scan head locking switch is locked)
Underneath the left side of the scanner is a locking mechanism for the scanner.  Turn it in the opposite direction and see if that works.
If that doesn't do the trick, there is binding on the ribbon cable underneath the scanner.  This can be fixed by removing the slack from it and taping the ribbon cable down with scotch tape.  make sure there is enough slack in the cable to move the scanner from one end of the glass to the other.

Officejet 7310: Scanner Failure

If you get a "Scanner failure" message then the problem is the motor itself. Notice how the motor works fine when the scanner is moving slowly, like copies or faxing with the original laid on the glass. HOWEVER, the scanner failure comes up when you use the automatic document feeder on top. Why? Because the scanner assembly has to move to the other side of the printer at high speed to get into position, and it's the high speed movement that triggers the error on the printer. The motor is expensive, part number Q3450-60003. Many other models use the same motor, maybe you could find one cheap somewhere and swap the motor?

WON'T SCAN

Did you have things apart far enough to mess with the scanner.  The scanner should move to one side when it first goes on, and then trip a sensor (home position sensor).  Also, the scanner is probably belt or cable driven.  Check to see that the belt is somewhat tight, and that the gears and pulleys leading to the scanner motor are in place and not broken.
