is this the single handle model? if so simply remove handle, plate, then pull the clip out with a pair of needle nose (after turning main water off).
the valve assembly will pull staright out with moderate force. sounds like one of the small o rings got pinched so it may take a good pull.
make sure to look inside valve housing for foriegn debre. clean it out good. i like to turn the water on for a few seconds before i put the new valve in to blow out any stuff that might cause problems.

Pop off the little round plate that's on the front face of the handle. Under that, there's a screw that you can unscrew and then the handle comes off.
