Make sure the expansion ring is on the end of the impact gun. this holds the sockets in place.

You will need to find a spring for the trigger, parts are hard to come by new unless it is a Snap-on or MAC brand.

How do you oil a Craftsman Air Impact Wrench Model No. 87518846

If you are just oiling the gun, hold it upside down and squirt some oil ine the air chuck fitting.(I just use an empty bottle of my wife's hair dye filled with ATF-it's cheaper than a can of "air tool oil".If you are referring to the grease fitting for the impact mechanism, look for a small hole with a captured metal ball. The only tool I found to fill this is a specially designed miniature grease gun(got mine at Sears).

Craftsman 1/2 inch air impact wrench i bought one and i don't see a chuck in the box nor do i see instructions on how to attach sockets....i've never had one before and don't want to sound like an idiot,...

  • There are no chucks with these newer impact wrenches. See that little ring on the tip of the socket shaft? That is a lock ring and that is what holds your sockets in place. You will want to keep a few 1/2 impact wrench lock rings around. There is a tool they make to aid in removing and replacing those rings but it is not necessary. You can use a small flathead screwdriver and walk the old one off and the same for replacing it. All you need to do is snap a socket on there real good and let'er rip.

What sockets fit

Any sockets will fit the ratchet, 3/8 drive, the impact drive is 1/2 drive, and they make hardened sockets for it. And I can't really make out the last tool there in the kit. The impact tool will take normal sockets for reg duty use but not for wheel lugs and such, they will crack, but if you buy Craftsman, they will replace it. I have only cracked one in thirty years. But I also have the hardened set of sockets. Hope this helps.

Dont know where to put oil in Craftsman 1/2 " Impact wrench

I just bought one of these also. Manual says oil goes into "the air inlet" which I'm thinking is where you attach the hose. That way the oil is sprayed throughout the interior of the gun once you run air through it.
Question for you: I can't get an impact socket onto this gun, almost seems like the square hole is too small. (yes, both are 1/2" drive). How do you get a socket on this stupid thing?
(man that sounds like I'm an idiot, but I've spent a half hour leaning all my body wight, wiggling, etc. and can't get a damn socket on)

Hi, The socket adapter spins before i engage trigger

The seal is bad inside leaking air pressure to the gun without squeezing the triger. Get a reseal kit from Sears

1/2 air impact wrench will not turn socket. Air just comes out the small vents on the bottom of the handle. Any suggestions?

Make sure the fitting are tight on the hose and gun. Also make sure that the switch for forward/reverse is solidly in one position, if it is not it will cause what you described.
