You would have to replace the bad parts along with the belt. But you did not give brand and model number info, so can't help more with that info.

Belt rubbing against side of track, melting plastic. Found loose metal pin.

Chances are, that U-shaped pin is a guide intended to prevent the belt from contacting the track. There may be a jagged edge on the pin where it broke off from the sheet metal screw that was holding it in place. Somewhere around the track you should find the screw and a jagged piece of metal. In any event, you may be able to get a replacement pin from a vacuum cleaner repair shop and install it yourself or have the shop do it.

Why does it emit a high-pitched squeal (while running)?

This is usually caused by a belt being too tight or the wrong size. It can also be caused by something wrapped around the brush (like loose thread from a rug or yarn, shoestring etc. Try inspecting the brush and belt.

I have a Kenmore vacuum cleaner 116.35922 and it's making a loud noise and not picking up dirt. I checked the hose for a clog and changed the bag. What else can I do?

Check to see if the brush is spinning when the unit is running. If not, the drive belt may have broken and will need to be replaced. Common sized replacement belts can be purchased at most department stores. Kenmore belts should be available at most Sears stores.

Another possibility is that if a large enough object was picked up, it may be lodged in the impeller, or impeller housing. If so the housing will need to be disassembled to determine if any physical damage was done, and to clear the debris.

My Oreck XL has quit sucking. The brush turns but

Same problem here with XL9100. Bag would not expand implying no suction. Motor ran and brushes turned. Easy disassembly using common tools found that a plastic bag had been sucked up and caused a blockage prior to the impeller. Cleaned up, reassembled, and everything worked fine after that.

The belt keeps breaking lately. I've had the

Before putting on the new belt make sure the brush turns freely and nothing is wraped around the bearing ends, if it is not turning free and is clean try a little grease or vasaline on the bearing ends. dont get any on the belt though. check the motor shaft also it should be clean and no residue from the old belts on it. it can be cleaned with rubbing alcohol and a rag, if really caked try a scotch pad .

Belt and lifter getting hot right away on start up.

Hello,
I would say that it is definitely running backwards. I have a guide to replacing the power switch that outlines the reassembly of the Kirby and tells you which carbon brush wire plugs into which hole on the power switch. Each carbon brush has a letter (B or O) and the same two letters are on the switch to help you get the wires back on right. (the "B" attaches to the "B" and the "O" attaches to the "O") Here is the link to the guide and I hope it helps,...

Eureka 5843 belt keeps slipping off of drive spindle.

Tough one. Typically the only 2 things that the belt contacts is the motor drive spindle and the brush roller. Anything else would only be there to protect the belt from debris. Can you turn the brush by hand and see why the belt is coming off? Is the spindle wobbly? If so, you may need another motor as I don't think it is easy to get parts for the motor. Hope this helps and good luck!
