A reversing valve a type of valve and is a component in a heat pump, that changes the direction of refrigerant flow. By reversing the flow of refrigerant, the heat pump refrigeration cycle is changed from cooling to heating or vice versa.

Brand New 2 weeks old 4 ton Trane compressor leaks a lot of water onto pad

If the unit is running in cold weather than there is ice building up on the coils located outside. This is normal in that the unit is running in heat pump mode heating inside and cooling outside, After the unit detects the ice build up it briefly reverses the cycle heating the outside coils melting(defrosting) the ice which you observe as water on the pad.

The video gives you an example of the defrost cycle!

Where do i find the expansion valve on a 3.5 ton trane air handler. Model no of the trane air handler is: 2TEC3F42C1000AA

The TXV (thermostatic expansion valve) is always at the end of the high pressure liquid line as it enters the evaporator. This is the small line. The outlet of the TXV will usually have 4, 6 or 8 smaller lines feeding proportional portions of the evaporator coil. You have to remove the cover of the evaporator to access it.

Some units do not use a TXV, so you may have a 'fixed restrictor' instead. It too is located where above described.

Ruud heatpump mod uprl024jez ser 7220m280813390 in heat mode 15 degree ambient 70 degree in house low side 55 high side starts out 250 steady climbs to out of sight r 410 reverse to cool low...

Remove bulb and warm with hand. Watch pressures to determine if txv is functioning. I do believe there is something out now that will free a stuck r.v.. Have not tried this but inexpensive start. At 15 degrees you're liking using heat strips, possibly machine trying to do both. Good Luck

The unit makes a noise. sounds like a pressure relief when the unit shuts off

If this is a heat pump when the unit shuts down it de-energizes the reversing valve causing it to shift and make a loud swishing noise, which equalizes the pressures causing that sound.
If it's an air conditioner you are probably hearing a pressure flow thru an orifice or a txv opening.

Air conditioner squeals when air turns on but not when heater turns on new 2 yrs.

Assuming this is a heat pump, more than likley the reversing valve is either going bad or there is a restriction in reversing valve. Regardless of what type of unit this is the parts are under warranty. Call a good Hvac tech to check out system.

Goodman heatpump. Crazy pressure in heat mode

Check the TXV valve on the outdoor unit, it could be stuck closed. We have been experiencing the same problems with the 410 systems and the TXV was the culprit. Good Luck
