Yes, it sounds like you need to update the driver for your Audio Card. You can do this automatically using a program called DriverEasy from the following site: http://www.drivereasy.com/

Follow the instructions on the web page and choose to install the driver for your sound card which should appear in the list.

ok if you havent already you should make sure the setting for your pc sound is 5.1. if it isnt go to the control panel and fix that and after it is set for 5.1 double click the speaker icon in the bottom left corner of your screen and turn the volume for all the channels is turn all the way up and make sure its not on mute. If that doesnt help then im sorry but i hope it fixes it.

The speakers no longer work. They were working 2

selectbanker, As a test only try this. Remove green plug from rear of pc. Find old am/fm stereo transistor radio or even a portable cd player and connect the green plug to your "new" audio source. Can you hear anything coming out of the monitor's speakers? Also try a set of stereo headphones in the green audio "out" jack to see if sound is coming out of the pc. Narrow down where loss of signal occurs first. 12fixlouie

Left speaker is not working on my 2.1 speaker system...

A few things can cause this to happen. First we should check the computer. Take a pair of headphones or other speak set and check if sound comes from both sides. If to then the computer output is correct, else the computer is channeled to output to one side.

To change sound settings, if this is windows, go to your control panel and look for sounds option. In there you can change speaker settings, change volumes. On the volume control you can balance the speaker output. center the slider to make both correct.

If sound is coming from the PC correctly with a test object you will need to check your speakers for a fade option, not many have this it is just a suggestion. If no fade option exists, make sure the plug is totally seated. Improperly seated plugs will cause only 1 channel to be outputted or none.

If all the above does not help then check the cabled leading form the computer to speakers for damage as well as checking the wire between the left and right speakers for damage. Many times the output lead from the right to he left gets damaged from stress or other things and will stop output. Wiggle and pull the wire gently in each direction if they don't physically look damaged to see if sound is produced. if it is then the wire is internally damaged or loose from the speaker.

good luck

I jus plugged up the computer speakers and they wont even turn on .. it makes my sound stop like the speakers are plugged in but it doesnt play from the speakers

u need to be more specific, if you computer is not coming on then your speakers will in any case not give out sound....but if the PC is working and your speakers are not connected properly to the correct speaker out put jack behind the PC then also the sould will not be heard.
Change to a different output slot, check if the speaker has power, the volume is up, the volume ctrol on the task bar od Windows is not in mute,
Go to Control Panel and check for Sound and Audio Devices and check if the options are not greyed out. You should be able make changes in the Volume/Sound/Audio Tabs, else you audio card is not being detected by OS.
Further solution from me will depend on your reply.

The sound from my speaker fades in and out, but the handset works fine.

Since this problem just started, I would first check to make sure there is nothing stuck inside the mic's port. Also, if you have a fan on in the room, that can also cause your speaker to fade in volume.

I say both of these because if the phone thinks you're saying something, your speaker will fade in volume. Whether you're talking or it's just air noise, the volume will fade.

Faint sound from the speakers

Most speakers are mains powered (either plugged directly into a wall socket, or maybe using a 12volt adaptor), and inside the speakers will use a small amplifier circuit. These circuits are prone to often going faulty and may lose one speaker or both, so instead the speaker will then only play the sound as it gets it from the PC (or hifi etc.).

Audio to speakers is not sent in a 'loud' form, but is instead just a very high quality weak signal that must be amplified to be heard. Typically a PC sound output may be just .5 to 1.5 volts only, just enough to work a set of headphones but nothing much more.

I suggest checking your speakers on another item, such as a CD player or hifi that definatly works, and if its the same, its most likely the 'amp' gone faulty. It's not really worth fixing as they usually only break in cheaper types of speakers - so its as easy to just buy another set.

If they work OK on other devices, maybe check these things:

Is the volume up on the computer ? Check on the volume icon on the taskbar, and also if its a laptop check its not got a volume dial that has been accidentaly turned down/off.

Test the computer with other speakers, to just narrow down the fault.

Some PC's have several output sockets at the rear (or front), so make sure you have it plugged in to the correct socket - even if you have used it before, some PC's software can actually change what comes from each socket, so your MIC socket could now have become your SPEAKER socket, or other settings may have been changed by other software.

Check your operating system is not using a 4 speaker setup instead, and sending the sound to non-existent rear speakers/woofers/tweaters. My own PC has 8 outputs, so I make sure nothing alters my settings or i'd never hear it again ;)

Its also possible for the PC audio chip to go faulty, but that is very very rare. If nothing else works & the speakers are known working ones, you may have to try a new sound card.

Remember that plugging the standard 3.5mm stereo jack plug into the wrong sound card socket will not cause harm, you may just hear a loud 'THUMP' or click as the power goes across.

One last thing is, try reinstalling your audio drivers. PC operating systems can lose driver functions and do any possible thing you can imagine. It may be as simple as a reinstall to wake up the audio card again.

Good luck.
