Question about Lasko 48" Xtra Air Tower Fan with Air Ionizer

1 Answer

How does the "Ionizer" work on the Lasko 48" Wind Curve Tower Fan ? Shouldn't there be a HEPA filter to change or something to clean once in a while ??

Thanks Jennifer ! Actually, I received the following response from Lasko themselves:

"Lasko?s fans use a negative ion generator inside the fan to disperse negative ions into the room with the force of the fan. It is intended to give the space a fresh air feeling, similar to those outdoor spaces that have high concentrations of negative ions, such as the beach. This is achieved by raising the proportion of negative ions versus positive ions in the room. There is no filter or plate to be cleaned inside the Ionizer because it does not collect airborne particles inside the unit and is not rated as an air cleaner.

As stated in the instruction manual, it is recommended that the air intake vents be vacuumed on a weekly or biweekly basis to maintain the optimum performance of the product.

To prevent dust and lint collection on or inside the fan; on a regular basis, be sure your unit is unplugged and use the hose attachment on your vacuum cleaner to vacuum the front and back vents of the unit; you may also use a can of compressed air to blow air into the front and back of the unit while vacuuming it. This will loosen up anything that may have collected inside the unit and makes it easier for the vacuum to get it out. If you do not have a can of compressed air the vacuum cleaner should be enough."

I'm not exactly sure, but I think that an IONIZER has nothing more than metal blades inside that 'capture' dust/debris and contaminants from the air on the blades. There should be a handle to lift up on and remove the long blades.

You rinse the blades with warm soapy water, dry them and put them back in. Maybe I'm thinking of something else, but to me, that is what an ionizer is. Hope this helps at least some.

Best, Jennifer

I have a 42" wind

the first thing to check is that the remote control is working and the control panel of the fan itself are working probably and i think they did but you have to check first
this fan oscillating control button is not a mechanical connection like the regular fan so if you are not using it wrong(and i think you don`t ) an if all the buttons are working -except the oscillating function - (and i think they are ) turn that thing back and test it at the shop

My lasko mod 2554 fan powers up but the fan will not work. The fan oscilates and the ionizer and timer lights all work.

It is possible that the main capacitor is faulty and so the coils is not enerrgised to start.
So check winding and check the capacitor for open.
Test capacitor by charging both the pins to mains voltage and shorting the pins to see if charge is retained. If retained the capacitor is good, if not replace.

How do you clean the ionizer in a lasko wind curve

You have to take the fan apart. They didn't design it with the convenience of the customer who likes to keep things clean in mind, so you have to get out a bunch of screwdrivers and stuff and roll around on the ground and fight with it until you get it apart. I posted a lengthy post on how to get this model apart, as I just did mine yesterday. Just look for my name on the Lasko models like this one. But be careful and don't try it if you don't think you can pull it off without getting hurt.

Lasko ionizer 48" fan

Hi suedevito,

In case an electrical appliance does not do anything anymore, I always first check the fuse(s). There can be a fuse in the electrical plug (in case of UK-type of plug for example) and possibly also somewhere within the fan's housing. In case you do not know how to measure a fuse, just simply replace all the fuses in one go with a new fuse of the same (!) rating. I hope this will solve your problem.

Good luck!
