Least case scenario it may be the USB cable (or whatever cable you are using) or the jack you are plugging into. I would first try a new cord, a different jack and even a different computer to see if you get the same issue on it. If its still acting up you definitely got a bad drive and you need to get your info off quick. If's its still in warranty get it repaired. If not you will need to get another one. I would not keep sensitive data on there. Hard drives have a habit of dying all of a sudden.

Hi I cannot access my buffalo portable hard drive series HDPX320U2 can you help please?

If you have already attached your external hard drive to the computer and already installed the driver disc that comes with your portable hard drive (if one is provided, sometimes one is already installed in your harddrive) and you get nothing when looking in the "my computer" for your portable harddrive, it could be a issue with your portable harddrive, First check to see if proper connection are made and are fully connected. Check your portble hard drive if you turn it on and the power light is on. If you still get nothing then your harddrive disk is either bad or your harddrive enclosure is bad. If you know how to take your harddrive disk out, and connected to a computer usually via a sata cable and see if the computer detect it that way. If you done this and get nothing, then yup your harddisk is history. If you have extermly important files, such places as bestbuy, office depot, will do a recovery for you, which can cause up to couple of bills large for the amount of recover data they get you. More data, more money.

My harddrives cd image partition is readable but another 1tera byte part is not getting detectd. please help

Sometimes my external drive fails to mount. What I do to force it is follow these steps:

Click start and open up a command line window. Either find it in the Accessories folder or type cmd at the search.
In the cmd window, type 'diskpart'. A new command window might pop up. In the new window, or the same one if a new one doesn't pop up, then type 'list volume'. It will list a number of volumes on the system in the form:
Volume ## Ltr Label FS Type Size Status Info.
Find your hard drive in this list and note the volume number. I usually find the hard drive by comparing Sizes, but it should also show your hard drive's name under Label.
Next type 'select volume x' where x is the volume number for your volume. So for instance if your hd happened to be listed as Volume 3, you would type 'select volume 3'.
Now, type 'assign letter=G' or whatever letter you want your volume to be. Once you've done this, your volume should be mounted and you should be able to access your drive normally.

Probably not the right answer for your problem. Mine is an external 1 TB Simple Drive. Mine wouldn't respond at all. I unplugged the power cable from the back of the hard drive and replugged it in and instantly it worked (with the computer and hard drive plugged in). I had tried rebooting the computer, plugging/unplugging over and over into the computer and that didn't work.

How do i remove the harddrive

Hi,

What you will do is turn the case around and loosen the two case screws on the right side of the back case. Then slip off the side panel. Inside you will probably find a casing that the hard drive is sitting in, sometimes it's facing you , aometimes it not. If it's not, there is a lever that you can pull to release the casing with the hard drive in it. Then there will be a couple of screws on the side of the casing that need to be taken out to remove the drive completely. Opps, almost forgot, you'll have a cable that comes from the back of the hard drive that goes to the motherboard, You only need to remove the side that's connected to the hard drive, and your done. Reverse these instructions in order to put in a new drive.

Dell inspiron 1521 error code 2000-0146.. computer keeps freezing before it even loads up the window....

Hi eodnd119,

That's not a good error code. That is telling you your hard drive is bad.
You likely have a drive where sectors are going bad - sometimes they may be readable, sometimes not. But it's just a matter of time before the drive fails completely.
Replace the hard drive.

Good Luck,

Just to be sure, is it the power supply that is faulty, or the harddrive 'case'?

If you have a separate power supply, you can find a new one for something like 15-20$
