Did you recently install new hardware, software or change anything with the BIOS?

  • bjones8205 Jul 08, 2010

No, not recently. I haven't installed any new hardware or software in a while. The last time it worked I was in the process of modifying my router settings. I was using my flash drive to load the files. My desktop has always been running slow but when I to used my flash drive it slowed up even more thats when I decided to improperly shut it off.

I also use the flash drive for my mac files, can that play a part in problems I have been having with my desktop

Will I be able to find the correct rebooting software for windows media center on the internet.

  • bjones8205 Jul 19, 2010

Thanks for the link. Is there any other way I can reboot the computer because it can't seem to find the CD in the drive. I have tried going to the F2 = set up and setting the boot sequence to IDE CD-ROM Device to 1st.

  • bjones8205 Jul 24, 2010

I had to press F8 in order to boot the reboot Cd. It brought me to the Windows Advanced Options menu. When I try to click reboot the screen will blank for a few seconds and it will bring me back to the screen where it will ask me do I want to start windows norlally, safe mode ,safe mode command prompt. Any more suggestions??????

From your request, the question is very general.

Code Stop 0x0000007B, it means "inaccessible boot device": Windows is not able to read from the device it's supposed to be booting from. That device would normally be your hard drive - but if you're getting this during Windows installation, it could be something wrong with your CD or DVD drive..

The Stop 0x0000007B error message will be displayed on your screen with a lot of other information in what is know as the "Blue Screen Of Death" or "BSOD".

Different PCs have different "IDE or Sata interface default settings" depending on the OEM manufacturer specifications. Check your OEM motherboard require any BIOS updating.

If your PC is a desktop, remove all the PCI devices installed on the PCI slots.

If you can access to the CMOS BIOS, reset the settings to default, save the settings and reboot your computer.

If the your PC can access to windows, do a "chkdsk /f/r" from the "Command Prompt".

If not you have to reinstall the OS.

To troubleshoot the process will take sometime by trail and errror.

Since you mention you have Mac files on your USB flash drive, can you check if your flash is clean ie free from any "nasty" files than have a auto inf that might install some unwanted files to your PC and cause your PC to crash? (FYI if you install any Mac programs that is not compatible to Windows on the PC there is always a possibily your PC will crash. Trial Tested on my PC and it crashed.)

Maybe this workaround might help. Disconnect any devices attached external or internal to your PC. Remove your PC Bios battery(CR2032) and reset it to default and set time to current time. Reboot and see whether you can access to windows? If you can access, then do do a "chkdsk /f/r" from the "Command Prompt". If not,

Can you boot from your CD/DVD ROM? If your can do a diagnostics test on your Hard drive. You can use the "Hiren's BootCD", or your can download the bootable diagnostics CD from the Hard Disk manufacturer. This is to check whether your HDD is error free or healty.

When you enter to your CMOS setup, are the devices HDD and the CDROM detected in the Bios settings? If any of the devices is not detected possibilities the hardware is faulty or configuration of devices settings are wrong Check your CMOS battery? Any SATA interface devices? CDROM or HDD? Best is to set your BIOS back to "default" and select CDROM as 1st boot drive. (In some motherboard the "IDE or Native" settings are the same.)

If your BIOS support USB devices your can boot from a Bootable Flash drive too.

If you have download any OS from the web, be sure to burn it a low speed, say 4X or most of the time the burnt disk won't boot.

Rather difficult for me to assisst you 'cos don't know your CMOS/BIOS configurations.

When you press F8, you are entering safe mode only, it seems that your sytem cannot boot from a bootable CD(ie WinXP or any diagnostics CD)? Either your CDROM or the Bootable CD is no good?

Disconnect the CDROM from the system, reboot and see whether you can boot your system into safe mode? If not.......,

Most probably in your case your system files are corrupted, If you don't need the data on the old HDD, then I suggest you repartition, reformat and do a fresh OS install on your PC.

My computer shut down windows to prevent damage from my computer

Try tapping the F5 or F8 key (could be either one) right after you power up. This should take you to a short text message with a couple of choices to continue; you'll find the Safe Mode option there.
