Question about Dell Dimension 9100 PC Desktop
Hello, I forgot my "password" to log onto my computer and I need assistance (my hint access is not available). I am not sure if I pressed a button incorrectly but up until a couple of months ago, I was able to view and signon from the traditional Windows signon--where it showed vertically all of the sign on users; now it just shows me as the sign on in a square box in the middle of the screen and I cannot sign on. Can you please walk me through this process. Thank you.
If you could sign in your computer from a restart with a list of users on the screen, those users might not with a password. So you can try sign in with any of those user name you ever saw and without password. If the account you sign in with is with the administrative permission, you will be able to reset the password of any user accounts on your computer. (I will give you all the detailed steps with a Microsoft document linked below.) If your computer is connected to a network, you can try to login with the accounts with the administrator's permissions on the network and reset any password of any user accounts on your computer. They might be assigned the administrator's rights on your computer too.
If all the user accounts are not good for the login on your computer or without administrator's permission, you can reset the password still if you have created a password reset disk.
If those two approaches do not work, you might need to reinstall Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 on your computer and all the applications.
The detailed steps are described by the following document.
If you like to backup your data before reinstallation to make sure your data will be safe, you can move the hard disk to another computer and copy your data over. Please don't hesitate to turn to me if any questions.
