Question about Panasonic TH-42PZ700U 42 in. Plasma Television

Plasma TV overheated and Cut Off

I had my plasma tv leaning against a wall with a with a sheet covering it because some construction was going on in my home and I want to kept the dust off of it. A little a later, a directv guy came over to install cable and lifted the front part of the sheet, but left the back covered. I had no idea that the sheet was blocking the fan vents until the TV just cut off.

When I went to check it, the plasma was really hot and a red light kept blinking. It has now cooled off, but it will not cut on. Every time I try to turn it on, the red blinking light appears. Did I just burn out my tv or is it in some kind of safety mode? the model of the tv is a Panasonic TH-42Z700U. Any suggestions? It blinks 10 times and then resets

IIs going to need to be repaired, He overheat the set too much, I would unplug it and wait over night to see if it resets but i seriously doubt that, its going ot need to be repaired as a wrose case.

You should never cover vents and if you having work done in that area you should put a card board box over it that way the tech would had taken off the whole box while it was turned on.

Sorry to hear about this but i would first allow it 24 hours unplugged to see if that works but if not I am afraid its going to need repair.

Thanks for using fixya please do click the accept button for my efforts.

What do you think I screwed up? I just really wondering how much a repair would cost. I wonder if it is not just worth buying a newer tv is the repair cost too much. Any idea on what I would most likely be looking at in terms of repair price?

Minium $250 for the board that overheated and you labor most charge from $34-80 per hour, so it could be worth the repair but again you want to outwiegh cost verse repair cost!

Sounds like it may be overheating. Make sure all the vents are clean and clear and the inside electronics are not covered in dust etc.

5 blinks - check the 5v SOS D Board since the set is a plasma.

Your best best is to obtain a quote from an authorised Panasonic service centre on the likely cost to replace that board if required, then you can make a decision afterwards - to either go ahead with the repair, or cut your losses and purchase a new set if the latter option turns out to be cheaper.

Always ask about and insist on extended warranties whenever you buy a new TV such as plasmas. These will cover you against expensive repairs, and having to buy a new one each time the old one breaks down in the future.

These days manufacturers lean toward board replacement in plasma and LCD TVs rather than individual components, as it is quicker and easier to replace a whole board than to try and fix an old faulty one. It's also tidier in terms of layout.

I accidentally overheated my Panasonic Plasma TV TH-42PZ700U. It won't turn on, and the power button is just blinking. What can I do?

All you can do is: Take the plug out of the wall (power) - wait 2hrs, plug in and try again. If it will not work after being cooled and the capacitors drained (which this will do) then it needs repair.

My son just through one of his toys at our new Panasonic plasma tv and now it will not turn on has a small crack on the middle lower right hand side where the on / off button and sd slot is on the screen...

Hello; I have run a TV repair business for 34 years now. That whole plasma screen is under a very high vacuum just like a light bulb or neon sign tube. If there is a crack anywhere on it, air from the room will quickly rush in, making it impossible to light up. This Plasma panel will cost more than the set sold for. Time to buy another set and maybe protect it with a sheet of Plexiglass cut to your screen size. John

P. S. cracked screens are never covered by warranty, but you might check your homeowners ins. or credit card if you used one to buy the set. Also if that crack is in the plastic cabinet and not the glass screen your set my still be repairable.

42 inch LG Plasma TV - Lost picture

This is almost certainly the device that sends electricity to the the plasma in the panel after failing. Bring to your local repair shop and expect to pay 300-400 parts and 100-200 labour.

it is a myth about how the tv is positioned, if you have audio but no video then it is probably the y-main bopard or the y-scan board, if you replace the y-scan buffer then you have to replace the y-main at the same time, if the tv is in warranty call 1-800-samsung

Distance over gas fireplace

Both LCD TVs and plasma TVs get hot, though plasma TVs tend to be a bit hotter in my experience. Also, plasma TVs are going out of fashion.

A lot will depend on the construction of your fireplace. If it's brick it should insulate fairly well.

Either way, I would recommend a mounting solution that does not put the back of the TV flush with the wall. Get one that tilts. I would avoid the "arm" style ones as that will put additional strain on the mounting.

Remember to think about how you want to run your power and video cabling as well!
