Hi. Make sure first that harddrive is being recognized by your motherboard if you go to Bios setup. Formatting wont damaged the harddrive. Check also physical connection if possible.

checking the physical connection inside the laptop will require expertise. i suggest that you take the computer to a local technician to have it checked for you. There is a huge possibility that there are loose cables inside the laptop thats why Harddrive is not detected by the machine.

I see. Do you have other Windows Installer? it might be the installer Cd is having a problem. Since the machine was able to detect your Harddrive.

are you booting from the Cdrom when trying to install XP? is this the procedure that you are doing:

Insert the Windows Cd to your CDRom

    Power on the computer

keep on tapping F12 while computer is turning on

Select ODD DVD Rom when prompted for boot options

Press any key when asked to boot from CD

Follow on scree procedure while on the process of windows installation

  • reach4vstars Jul 08, 2010

yes thats right. it sets up the temp files then says press enter to install xp.then it says on a blue screen- set up did not detect any H/D on your computer. Make sure any h/d drives are powerded on and connected to your pc.and that any disk related hardware configuration is correct. this may involve running a manufacture supplied diagnostic or set up pragram. Set up cannot continue. To quit setup press F3.

are you using the recovery disk of your laptop? i remember before when i am using my toshiba laptop and trying to install different cd (not the recovery disk). i am getting that error message.

  • reach4vstars Jul 08, 2010

    no i dont have one.

I provided you a procedure on how to bypass this problem. please click here.

  • Archie Cruz
    Archie Cruz Jul 08, 2010

the issue here is that , your computer only recognizes the recovery disk that is why if you attempt to install different windows installer cd in your computer it will gives you that error message. Only the manufacturer can unlock this feature in the motherboard. Try the bypass procedure that i have provided to you.

Hello,

where are you installing the operating system from? is it from a a cd, if it is from a cd, i advice you get another copy of cd because the one you are trying to use to install on your laptop is corrupt that is why your laptop is not recognizing it, get another copy of the operating system to install on your laptop. or perhaps, the lens on your laptop could not read the cd anymore because it is weak, if you get another copy and the same, it means the lens of your laptop is weak and could not read the cd.

Take care.

hello. i am installing from a disk, but it works on alll my other pc,s. it starts the OS set up then stalls asking for the manufactures bootable installation disk. i dont have one.

    Hello,

Is it the same xp you use in formatting your hard drive you are tring to install on the hard drive that is not installing, if it is, then it means the hard disc drive on your system is damage that is why it is asking for bootable disc, it means the hard disc is not recognizing the xp cd.

I believe this is not the first time you are formatting the hard disc, the hard disc on your system is bad and will need to be replace, i advice you get another hard drive on your system.

    Take care.

If you are installing Windows XP then -
The problem is that XP installation CD does not have a SATA driver, unless you have a SATA drive on a disk etc. and can install the driver when XP asks for a hard drive driver then, XP cannot detect the hard disk and therefore won't install XP. The FIX. Go into the BIOS and disable the SATA drive (enable IDE emulation), this will make XP think it is a IDE/PATA hard disk. Then you can install XP normally. When Windows has been installed then install all the device drivers (including the SATA driver), then shut down and boot up and got into the BIOS and enable the SATA drive.

Windows xp on 8460p

Hi Jon,

Make sure that you reformat the hard drive first before installing XP, if you are trying to install XP over the existing Operating system that may not work if you have Vista or Win7 running.

boot from the Disk to be able to start outside of windows instead of putting the disk in when windows is up and running.

Put the Win Xp dic in restart the laptop kee on tapping f12 then it should ask your where to boot select the cd/DVD this should boot from the disk directly and will be asking you to reformat the hard drive and inform you that the existing windows will be deleted, just say yes, that should go the way you want it.

I would like to install windows xp on the hp hdx9150. But Sata disks are not recognised. So i find a driver for that, i can give to the systeme with touh F6 , wind cd-rom windows xp bigin to install

Hi,

According to your problem first check the hard drive status and make sure that it is ok. If it doesn't detect in bios setup then you can change the cable of the hard drive. Also make sure that the DVD Rom working fine. If the hard drive doesn't detect while you begin setup then clear the bios first. Then reset the bios properly. You may need a firmware update also. If you can not continue the setup then break the partition of the hard drive. You can use partition break up software, like partition magic etc also. If it doesn't solve your problem then you may need to replace the hard drive. To check the hard drive status you can try with another OS installation. Best of luck.

Windows XP needs the SATA textmode drivers for it to recognise the SATA hard drive. This can be downloaded from this link:
http://support.gateway.com/us/en/product/default.aspx?tab=1&modelId=2391
You will need the SATA AHCI driver

You must then burn the drivers to a CD or copy to a USB stick. When installing windows XP, you will be prompted "press F6" to load additional drivers, at this point the install will ask you to specify where these drivers can be found, if you direct it to the USB or CD Rom (USB is better to avoid disc swapping), it should find the drivers needed and then recognise your hard drive.

The above is a bit academic though, because this does not appear to support Windows XP according to the downloads options on the link

What to do with unreadable but recognised hard disk segate 400GB

Your Windows Xp bootable CD should have an option called "Format his file system using FAT32" while installing the OS. Use the option to format it. The only prob is that it creates only a single partiotion. After installing windows you can re-partition using a third party software such as Partition Magic(please note that it will not affect your windows installation as you can first re-size the windows drive to a lower capacity and then partition the un-allocated space.

IBM Netvista 6059 - Can't upgrade to windows XP

Right well XP Pro really MUST be formatted with NTFS only... I suggest you get a third party partitioning program like Partition magic and completely remove the partition & redo it all again & this time Format NTFS. Or if ya have a WIN98 boot disk, and ya can use FDISK, Delete ALL partitions, and remake them again, using all the disk space, then format as NTFS, then proceed as below Then using your windows XP PRO setup Disk, start the install ...then when asked about where you want the install located, select C & REFORMAT it AGAIN with the windows setup using again NTFS file system... this should finish & then the Install should "see" your entire hard drive and format it accordingly and then when finished you can proceede to install XP.
