Question about Computers & Internet

1 Answer

After restoring my win vista os my dvd-cd rom doesn't work. My computer doesn't even recognize it on the computer. My device manager shows it's there with a yellow mark. In updating the driver it says I have the best driver available. The tray works just fine. Any suggestions. Larry

Is your computer a laptop or desktop? If yours is a laptop you have to check from the manufacturer site if the CD/DVD rom need a patch for the drive.

Dvd not working in bios or Windows 7

It's a common problem when upgrading a OS? Is the DVD rom the only component that's missing a driver? Any Unknown Devices? Have you opened the Device Manager and looked for the DVD? In Device Manager, Scan For Hardware Changes. Not Listed? Have you done ALL your windows Updates? All the HP updates? Try the driver here: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=ob-58707-1&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en&os=2093&product=3548266&sw_lang= Download the software and SAVE to a folder. Modify the compatibility of the software from Win 7, using this procedure: http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/using-windows-vista-compatibility-mode/ BEFORE YOU START, CREATE A RESTORE POINT. Dvd/cd writer will not recognize cd's or blank disk's will recognize dvd but not play.

Did this problem occur after a OS upgrade? Open Device Manager, DVD/CD-ROM drives, open and uninstall the DVD/CD rom. Reboot your machine, Win 7 should apply the correct driver. If you need a driver go to your manufacturer's website. Drivers and support section.

CD driver do not read any file

Hi there,

Does it recognize any cd you put in the drive or is it only one cd it doesn't recognize?

Please check if the cd drive is recognized by your computer:

Click Start go to My Computer (XP) / Computer (Vista/Win 7)
and check if you can see the drive. (if it's not there you may have to reseat the drive to make sure that the cables connecting it to motherboard are tight)

check the status in the Device Manager:

On your Keyboard press and hold the Windows Key then press the letter R
once the Run box comes up type in devmgmt.msc and the device manager should appear.

On the device manager look for the cd / dvd drive see wether it has an exclamation point a red x mark or a down arrow or it looks normal.

if it has a yellow exclamation point press and hold the windows logo then the letter R again and type regedit:

On regedit go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} and the delete the upper and lower filters. Close Regedit and restart the computer.

if it has a red x mark right click on the cd drive in the drive in the device manager and the choose uninstall and restart the computer.

If it has a down arrow right click on the drive and click Enable.

If the above steps doesn't work or if it doesn't recognize all types of media you put in it, that might mean that your cd drive is busted and it needs to be replaced.

Hope you find this helpful!

Why does my lenovo insist on my having a cd rom when i have a dvd writer installed? how do I fix it so that computer recoognizes it?

I have the same situation. My computer has a
DVD-RW/CD-RW installed yet when it is empty, the computer simply recognizes it as a CD drive. However, it will automatically recognize any DVD I place in the drive. Even a blank DVD-R. So it's not really a problem for me.

Also, if you type in DEVICE MANAGER in your windows search area, it will show you all your computer's hardware and peripherals. I have Windows Vista 64 bit and in device manager it does recognize it as an ATAPI DVD under "DVD/CD-ROM DRIVES".

I haven't seen a DVD burner yet that won't play or write cd's; maybe this is standard.

I wouldn't worry about it as long as it performs the functions (play/burn DVD's?)

Hope this helps.8a17955.jpgb9e40e6.jpg

Vista no longer recognizes my CD-ROM

"...manual driver update..." ... from the device's included driver disk? Or from a web-source? If web-source, how long ago and from where?
"...it found the hardware but was still unable to load driver software..." ... So Windows does recognize it then? Unable to load what .. the driver(s)?
"...Vista just isn't recognizeing my CD-ROM at all" ... ??? If I understand correctly, Windows "device manager" recognizes when its deleted, then refreshed, but Vista doesn't recognize it? By this do you mean it's icon does not show up in "My Computer"?

Lot of questions I know, but it's necessary to define the trouble in order to know which direction to go next.

ASSUMING IT'S RECOGNIZED BY YOUR WINDOWS VISTA OPERATING SYSTEM:

Here are a couple of very helpful and comprehensive software diagnostic tools for you to download at http://www.cdspeed2000.com/download.html. They are both FREEWARE and the same tools licensed to Nero for inclusion in their software products.

Installation: Simply extract/unzip the file to any chosen directory and run the executable (*.EXE).

1. "Nero DiscSpeed". Thoroughly tests speed and performance of your optical drives(s).
Download: http://www.cdspeed2000.com/files/NeroDiscSpeed_41140.zip
- Refer to the program's Help for guidance.
- User guide also available at http://club.cdfreaks.com/showthread.php?t=192563
- Here's a quick shorthand:
a. File > Options > Standard Tests > Choose which tests you wish to run (if unsure, use the default settings), then "OK"
b. Click "Start"

2. "Nero DriveSpeed". Adjust/control your drive's spin /up/down times and noise levels.
Download: http://www.cdspeed2000.com/files/NeroDriveSpeed_300.zip

ASSUMING IT'S NOT:

You need to get the latest and best driver package, then re-install. If you can provide the make/model/series of the drive, I can provide you with a reliable source to download.

Please report back, and in all likelyhood we'll get you some joy.
