Question about Sony Playstation 3 (PS3) Console

2 Answers

In the middle of a video, playing from a thumb drive, I suddenly get the message "This data type is not supported" (800288BF) The video was fine up until that point. The file name changed form the name of the TV show I was watching to Unsupported Data. When I try to play it again, it will play but not all the way to where I was originally until I get the error code again. What's up with that?

It is an .avi file similar to dozens I have played without issue in the past. What really bothered me was the fact that the file played fine for at least 3/4's of the show and then suddenly it became an unsupported file?

It sounds like there could be an issue with the codecs of the file. Does it happen to all files you are watching. Also what type of files is this happening on? AVI, MP4....etc. Also make sure that the File system of the thumb drive is in FAT. Check to see if you have the latest update from the PSN.

You can remedy an avi file problem pretty easily with Windows XP or Vista's Media Center. Detailed video here might help you: http://www.wonderhowto.com/how-to-upload-avi-video-files-ps3-with-windows-media-385897/

I have a dell 755 that the CD drive won't play certain CD's. It is not the CD because it plays on other machines. Some CD's will play just fine. Get's the error message Unable to Access Drive D tr

it depends on the files on the cd ...they might require a certain software to be installed in order to be read..for example the player may not be able to read mp4 without a codec installed ..or vcd (video cd ) to need a dvd player installed or a player that supports video cd and dvd-es..Same way for other file types...or ...certain speeds being imposed on writing ..and your cd drive to be unable to read them on those speeds..

My son has been playing on gran turismo 5 and suddenly the ps3 is saying there is not enough space on the hard drive. Despite deleting data it is still saying the same thing. Error message is...

The message should tell you exactly how much free space you need to free up on your hard drive. GT5 takes up an atrocious amount of hard disk space, and it just gets worse with each new patch. How much hard disk space do you currently have free?

Some blu-ray discs will not play on DVD player. Error message states "not supported file format" E/mail address is Dorray2 @cogeco.ca

If the unit says something about data storage, try putting a 1GB USB thumb drive in the front lower right of Blu-ray unit... I have a Samsung BD-C5500... Had that problem when we tried to watch Narnia #3 on Blu-ray...

Lost password and need the data from a sandisk cruzer thumb drive

There is no way to recover the data or password if the password if forgotten. Also, there is a limit to the number of attemps before the device becomes unusable. There will be an error message that pops up when you get within 5 attempts from loosing the data forever.

Did you put a password hint when you established your password? If so, hit the hint button to remind yourself.

Also, make sure you are entering the password correctly. Type your password into notepad or some other program to make sure caps lock, num lock, scroll lock, or any other sticky type key isn't making you enter the password incorrectly when you think it is correct.

If you cannot remember the password, you will have to reformat the drive and loose the data.

Also, once a password is set, the drive can only be read on a windows desktop or laptop. NOT in any other device or operating system. If you need to use it on something else like a camera, printer, game console, or a Mac, etc., then log into the drive on a PC and then disable the password feature.

I hope this helps.

Again WINDOWS ME

Click Start, click Run, type MSCONFIG (hit enter), click the button labeled “Extract File…” For the name of the file you want to restore, type EGA.CPI. Restore from your Windows Millennium CD (if your CD is your D: drive, type: D:\WIN9X). Save File In: C:\WINDOWS\COMMAND. (Found that in msconfig (international) pointing to display data file
c:\windows\command file EGA.CPI).
