The front mount mower has a safety switch on the park brake linkage and the seat belt linkage as well as on under the seat which is for the PTO,The one under the seat on the linkage just behind the battery is a culprit that needs adjusting to get the PTO to engage but it sounds like you need to deal with the seat switch circuit or replace the seat switch.

i have had a jd 525 since 1999 and only had to replace belts and one idler pulley until this year. then i replaced the clutch when it lost the bearing and siezed up. i have since recieved 3 old jd 525 as parts and made one out of those three. it has had some problems with the electronics, but minor and fixable. they are a very hard working mower capable of mowing for hours nonstop without problems. keep blades sharp and oil changed, air filters clean.

New battery on F525 John Deere mower won't stay charged-battery connections are good-is voltage regulator bad?

Either the alternator is not charging properly or the diodes in it are defective and discharging the battery when the ignition is off.

F525. Updated mower switch by John Deere is not engaging mower

The John Deere F525, a front cutting machine, has 3 fuses.
20 Amp
15 Amp
10 Amp

Check the 15 amp fuse. I believe this supports the PTO clutch. If you replace the fuse and it blows again, check the electric clutch. You will likely find burnt or melted wires. The bearings do go out on these clutches causing them to run hot and eventually burn up.

PTO Clutch will not engage: There is a very fine one page discussion on evaluating electric clutches at this site:

http://www.messicks.com/Articles/FixingElectricClutch.aspx

My JD tech manual, which covers the entire LA 100 series, agrees with the electrical specifications. It states that the Electric PTO Clutch should show the following:

Resistance 3.7 ohms
Current Draw 3.25 amps
It does not give the air gap.

It does include a note to check the PTO Clutch Key for damage or if missing. So there is a drive key between the PTO Clutch and the shaft. Additionally, it recommends checking the tightness of the cap screw. That's the screw or bolt that holds the clutch on the shaft.
Cap Screw torque 55 lb-ft (75 N.m).

If the fuse blows, I recommend you check the resistance of the clutch. If the clutch is shorting to ground it will show zero resistance when you ohms the connector wire to a ground position. In which case, you will have to replace the clutch.

Fixing Electric Clutches

Other possibilities.
On the F525 there is a cut-off switch in the hydraulic system. It is a low pressure cut off. If you were running the mower and deck and then it suddenly stopped, it may be low pressure in the hydraulics. It will not automatically reset as you are using the same volume for the drive pumps. Once the oil gets low enough it cuts out the deck drive 1st, then the drive pumps.

John deere 110 engine cranks but no spark

Check that the ignition coil kill wire is not shorted to the frame.
Check coil to flywheel gap. A business card between coil and flywheel will set correct gap.
Coil could be bad or ignition switch is not releasing the kill wire in Run/Start positions.

John deere model240 mower will not start. Have replaced coil and still not getting spark at the plug . Engine turns over strong

Only option left.... 12 volts feeding coil is not there. The ignition key applys the 12 volts to the coil in the "Run" and "Start" positions. Verify 12 volts at input to coil and then (if needed) follow wire back to key and confirm voltage there....and (if needed) follow input wire to key from battery. One of those critters is open - since you have already confirmed the coil/spark plug wire is not at fault.

Mower battery keeps going dead. New battery, new ignition switch, dead in two days. My hour meter stays on even when the ignition is off, so I unplugged it, no help.

There should be a battery relay between the battery and the ignition switch. This relay activates by the keyswitch supplying a feed back to relay while in the on position, causing the relay to latch and powering up the entire electrical system. Chances are this relay has failed in the closed position causing the fuel solenoid and start relay to have power all the time, which will drain the battery in a day or two. A quick fix is to install a disconnect switch on the negative side of the battery which you can shut off when you are done with the machine. Hope this helps.

John Deere 2010 utility tractor, lights come on dash board, but it wont start. Its in neutral, PTO is okay, seat switch okay

1) Battery condition and clean cable connections
2) Check the voltage & connections at the solenoid
*Is full battery voltage found at the solenoid?
3) Does the small wire that activates the solenoid from the ignition switch/safety switches have voltage when the key is in the start position

a) voltage yes, but it does not start; suspect solenoid
b) voltage no, inspect and check all safety switches for voltage to and from each switch
c) safety switches do NOT have voltage to them: inspect connections on ignition switch and check for voltage coming into the switch from the battery.

John Deere 425 AWS no start, no nothing???

Sounds more like a bad starter than a bad coil.

A failing coil usually shows up during hot weather. The engine will start and run fine, then when it heats up, it just dies out. After a few minutes, it cranks again. Then the cycle repeats itself.

The ignition module and coil pack are the same part.

Are you sure full voltage is getting to the starter? There is likely a starter solenoid between the ignition key and the starter. These solenoids can be problematic and prevent the full 12 volts from getting to the battery.
