The display connector should be up toward the top (near the display) and about the center of the case.

Need to locate jumpers on dell latitude d420 notebook

You can skip the jumpers reset, by unplugging or removing the coin cell (CMOS) battery for at least 4 minutes. This works on all PC's whether laptops or desktops. This resets the NVRAM, just like the jumpers would do.

Need to locate the jumpers on the motherboard of dell latitude d420 notebook to reset os password

I'm not sure the d420 has a jumper for BIOS reset on the motherboard. I think you will need to remove the small CMOS battery under the keyboard (for around 15 minutes) to reset the BIOS password and settings.

Hi matt d224...
.I included a couple of links to some parts for the D420

There is one test to determine if it is the screen causing the problem or maybe the lcd converter.
Plug an external monitor into your laptop and see if the picture is good...if it is then replace the lcd screen.
If there is still no picture then the problem is probably the lcd inverter needs replacement

Backlight on my dell latitude d420 too low, happened 2 days ago it was fine i closed the lid and when i opened it, screen went black, now its on but too low

If your laptop appears to boot up and the hard disk LEDflashes, then the problem is probably a back light fault. This can be a faultyinverter or a faulty CCFL lamp. Please click on this link and follow myinstructions to identify the fault and possible fix :- http://www.fixya.com/support/r3598095-faulty_laptop_lcd_screen
