Make sure the battery is in correctly, that makes a difference on some grills. Then you have to check the wires from the igniter to the electrodes, and then check to see if there is a spark from the electrode to the collector box or burner.

98 ford f150 has 4.6 motor cranks but no power to coils . Could this be a crank censor.

with any scan tool attached, you crank for 5seconds
and the tool will tell you what is or is not bad.
eg: if no DTC for Crank or cam sensors, its NOT THEM.
any OBD2 scan tool sold in USA works on this car. 1998,
any. the trick is.
1: keyon
2: crank for 5 full SECONDS.
3: release key , not off, wait for 1min.
4: see the DTC codes?????????
the PCM makes spark if the PCM is happy with the crank sensor
then it then uses what is called and igitor to fire the coils

better is to read the FSM on this car. (BOOK from dealer)

crank +cam >>>> PCM >>> ignitor the coil, the spark plus.
this is the path, note how the PCM is in the middle.
if it sees either sensor mess up 1 out of 10 times, it pukes, DTCS
like a swiss watch.

My Chevy venture 2002 van doesn't start. Good

You replace parts as part of your preventative
maintenance program, not to solve a problem
When working on a problem only component testing
will find the issues
You need to check for fuel pressure at the motor with a gauge
You check spark with a test plug you buy,not ground a plug
or wire on the vehicle
You can check for compression or cylinder leak down
to test some mechanical issues
I would assume ALL Fuse & links have been checked,as
well as battery voltage 12.6 v or more & cables etc
The ignition switch could be bad, turns starter but not all
the internal contacts are good

Need to replace the ignighters. Had a Sears repair man out. He didn't even know how to get the cover off the grill no less fix it. When we finally figured out how to get to the ignighters, I was quoted...

For $600.00 I'll come over and replace them. But, seriously, I find it really hard to believe that all the ignitors failed at the same time. First, I would ask you, did you change the battery for the electronic ignition and install the new battery properly? If it's facing the wrong direction, it won't work. It wouldn't hurt to check the battery holder for corrosion. If you see any (you'll probably need a flashlight), A Q-Tip and some WD40 works wonders in cleaning it. Also, the spark ends of the ignitor(s) may be covered with grease and won't fire. If that's the case, a cotton ball soaked in alcohol will clean them. Check the wires to each igitor to make sure they are connected (pushed on) snugly. The same holds true for the connections of the Ignitor Module.

If all else fails and you want to repair it yourself. here's a link to the Appliance Parts Pros. They stock parts for your grill, which manufactured by Whirlpool. http://www.appliancepartspros.com/partsearch/ They have a exploded view and part numbers for what you'll need.

Hope it all works out for you and Happy Grilling!!
