Question about Alienware PC Systems Alienware m15x Gaming Notebook

2 Answers

I have an Alienware Area-51 m15x laptop with a T8100 cpu @ 800Mhz FSB. I'm shopping around for upgrades and I was wondering if I could upgrade to a T9800 @1066 FSB. Alienware's site says that it can support processors with an fsb of 800, but I was wondering if it could still use one @ 1066 even if it didn't actually run at that speed?

if i can't use a 1066Mhz cpu, is the best 800Mhz FSB processor i can use a X9000? and if it is, is there a significant difference between the X9000 and the X7900 because they both run at 2.8Ghz speed? I really want to be able to run the higher-end pc games on this laptop.

Hi

After searching various articles including my personal knowledge the 800 FSB is compatible with your system. This is the frequency of at which the data travels between the CPU, and the Northbridge, which is part of the chipset. It is also related to the type of CPU you may install in the CPU socket. The Northbridge is the memory controller hub (memory/graphics), and the Southbridge is for the I/O controllers (PCI bus, HDD, Ethernet, etc.).
The up gradation that you referred is not recommended anywhere.

NO it will support that, if you replace it for a while you may find that it may run or maynot but for sure later on it will create problems.

2.4GHz 533MHz FSB to 2.4Ghz 800MHz FSB

Yes, you can put any Pentium 4 or Celeronsocket 478 processor in there, including those with an 800MHz FSB onthe processor. Don't waste your time with only a faster FSB unless youjust happen to have one laying around, the performance won't improvethat much. This one is $50 from Newegg.

Upgrading the components is not overclocking. Overclocking is when youforce the components to run faster than they are rated for. Yourmotherboard is set up to allow this, through the BIOS. Severaloverclocking features areintegrated into the BIOS, including the ability to adjust the FSBfrequency, and the Vcore, DDR, and AGP voltages.

If you choose to overclock, be prepared to make frequent changes toachieve best performance vs. stability. I would suggest upgrading yourcooling to the best you can afford as well. Your PC may lock up orrefuse to boot for no apparent reason if you overclock. Be preparedfor that and know what to do about it before you start youroverclocking career.

Power inverter pc 500 once u put power to it the red light comes on and beeps but no a/c power

Hi there
Not a great solution but makes sense.
the ac adaptor for your alienware probably says input 240V ac 1.5Amps whilst the inverter can output 175W= 240V ac at 0.73Amps.
I am surprised it actually worked, i had to buy a 300W inverter to run my laptop. would suggest you do the same.
inverter is probably toast now anyway.

Your computer has one of these options:
spacer.gif level2_arrow.gif Intel® Celeron® Processor 560
(1MB L2 cache, 2.13GHz, 533MHz FSB)
or
Intel® Celeron® Processor 550
(1MB L2 cache, 2.0GHz, 533MHz FSB)
or
Intel® Celeron® Processor 540
(1MB L2 cache, 1.86GHz, 533MHz FS
or
Intel® Celeron® Dual-Core Processor E1400
(512KB shared L2 Cache, 2.0GHz, 800MHz FSB)
or
Intel® Celeron® Dual-Core Processor T1400
(512KB shared L2 Cache, 1.73GHz, 533MHz FSB) spacer.gif

Check the features with Acer first and see if your motherboard model support that speed processor.
