I worked at a tool rental while attending college and have felt the same way as you when looking for oil drain plug on various tools. Some engines do not have a plug and you must tilt the engine to get the oil out. Others had a plug but could remove it so had to tilt anyway. Most small engines had the plug along the edge of the base of the engine. Look where the engine mounts to the frame of the generator. The engine block is about 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch thick there and usually has a 1/2 " square head plug. The oil drains very slow thru that hole. Some gen sets had a small tube (4 - 5 inch ) attached to drain hole that made it easier to catch oil. Good luck.

How to drain oil from engine. been in there for 1 year. can not remember. used 2 times, then just sitting.

Motor should have a small drain plug at base of motor. Take an empty container such as a antifreeze jug, cut out the top and use this a collection container. Use Teflon tape on plug end when reinstalling.

How much oil what wt.

Most any kind of 4-cycle motor oil like 10W-30 will work in these motors. After draining the old oil replace the drain plug. There are two types of motor oil fill holes: 1. If you have a motor with the oil fill/check hole on the bottom of the motor and a small screw-in plug either with or without a small dip stick on it; with the motor level, fill the crank case with oil until it is up to the threads on the oil fill/check hole. 2. If you have a motor with a long dip stick that goes into a filler tube at the top of the motor, again with the motor level, put in about half a quart of oil and use the dip stick to check the oil level. If not full, add quarter quart amounts and check again until the oil is at the full mark on the dip stick. Do not overfill the crank case with oil. Most motors will take about one quart of oil but it varries so watch to see the oil level come up to the proper level.

When checking the oil on the motor should the dip stick be screwed in for the correct oil level or just setting in the hole??

For Honda engine, just set in opening (unless it has a push-in dipstick like on auto ),

Briggs, most models, and other brands best to thread in unless stated in manual.

If oil cap is very close to base of engine and does not have an oil level marker, then fill to top thread (many older engines that did not have oil senser).

I would like to know what type and how much oil do I use in my powermate generator with the Subaru 10hp engine. thanks you

Your small engines require ordinary 10W30 motor oil.

Don't turn machine on its side or upside down to drain oil, or oil will run into carburetor.
Use a plastic hose to remove old oil

I have a Coleman Powermate PM0435001 5000W with a Subaru EX30D 10HP OHV/OHC gasoline engine. I want to change the oil and cant find a drain plug. Did I overlook it or does it not have a drain plug? If not...

You probably overlooked the drain plug, it is usually located on the mounting base of the engine. BUT, there have been some engines (old cheap ones) that the oil was drained by tipping the engine and draining out the oil fill. I am almost positive yours is not one of these.

Your manual is here, but that is only an "insert". It does look like the drain plug is located on the base of the engine. Find the spark plug, and the drain plug is almost directly underneath it at the very bottom of the engine.

More information is available from Subaru's website, including owners manual and especially a service and parts manuals. Your drain plug is item #13 on page 2 of the owners manual located here:
